The Technical Design Manager of TTS Studios is primarily responsible for developing fabrication, construction, and drafting plans for the projects produced at TTS Studios. This position is responsible for creating or delegating 3D models and 2D construction plates to the drafters. The Technical Design Manager is responsible for considering the scope of the project and for interpreting the design intent to create the best construction plan possible based on the budgetary and schedule constraints of the project. The Technical Design Manager is responsible for working with the Project Managers and Operations Manager to provide accurate, efficient plans for the different fabrication departments. The Technical Design Manager is also responsible for the creation and maintenance of all modeling, drafting, and CNC programming standards. The Technical Design Manager reports directly to the Operations Manager and works in parallel with other Department Heads. The Technical Design Manager directly supervises the Drafters and oversees the programming of CNC.
Compensation: Starting at $30-$35/hour
Conditions: 40 hours of work per week; plus occasional overtime
Paid Time Off: 15 days to be used at the Employee’s discretion; approval required.

Procedural Job Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement material and construction choices per project based on information from Project Management and feedback from the Operations Manager
- Create 3d models and work-out engineering challenges to either turn into construction drawings or to delegate to the drafting team
- Continuously and Consistently work towards improving processes and standards
- Drafting standards, cad templates, block library, etc.
- Delegate construction plates from models
- Works with client/designer as needed per instruction by the Project Manager
- Work with other departments to explore/experiment with new products and materials
- Supervise drafting team and proactively assign tasks based on project information and schedule
- Review completed models before the drafting team creates construction drawings
- Review construction drawings before they are released to the shop
- Participate in and lead project engineering meetings
- Collaborate with PM and OM to navigate the parameters of the project and how best to construct
- Lead and actively participate in the creation and maintenance of Project Management software
- Assign due dates to the drafting team based on the overall shop schedule and in conjunction with the project-specific schedule
- Assist in creating and maintaining all shop processes and standards as they relate to how things are made
- Delegate unit labels based on PM and OM feedback
- Lead part standards creation
- Supervise storage, distribution, and collection of all drawings for each project via cloud based storage and physical documents
- Supervise health of plotter and printer to prevent disruption of drawing flow to the shop
- Supervise, delegate, or create closeout documents per project
- Coordinate with Structural or Mechanical Engineers as needed per project
- Participate in standard meetings (kickoff meetings, staff meetings, engineering meetings, post mortems, etc.)
- Lead or participate in site surveys as needed
Requirements:
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (AutoCAD preferred)
- No less than 5 years of experience in technical design in the entertainment industry
- High attention to Detail
- Hands-on experience fabricating, assembling, and installing assets
- Ability to self-manage as well as delegate and work with others productively
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects at the same time
- Understanding of mechanical and electrical components
- Understanding of sheet materials including plywood (various species, etc.), hardwoods, plastics, foams, etc.
- Understanding of construction techniques; including wood, steel, aluminum, plastics, etc.
Preferred:
- Experience using project management software such as Asana
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Proficiency in Google Drive
- Experience with conducting site surveys
