PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Apheresis Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing acute apheresis treatment & hemodialysis therapy. They shall independently perform critical tasks in assessing, initiating, monitoring and terminating treatment in an acute hospital setting. The nursing care being provided is under the supervision and in cooperation with companies’ Director of Apheresis and in accordance with physician orders, HTI Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, OSHA, HCFA, AAMI, JCAHO, CMS, federal, state and local regulations.

RN PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
General:
-
Provides safe and effective patient care in compliance with company and contracted hospital standards, policies and procedures, as well as regulations set forth by the company, state, and federal agencies.

Performs all aspects of an Apheresis treatment.

Assists with HD coverage in surrounding Zone(s), reporting to the Clinical Operations Manager, or zone’s designee, after Apheresis assignment posting & review.

Maintains proficiency in all modalities, including but not limited to HD, TPE, Red Blood Cell Exchange & Platelet Depletion, White Blood Cell Depletion, and Therapeutic Phlebotomy.

Responsible for reporting all new or unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the Director of Apheresis, Team Supervisor, and/or CEO of the company.

Works effectively with other Apheresis RN’s, Acute Dialysis RN’s and Dialysis Technicians within the company, along with staff of contracted hospitals.

Offers assistance and support to other team members.

Expectation to work 3 (three) shifts per scheduled workday.

On-Call responsibility will be rotated amongst the Apheresis Team. On-Call shifts are to be covered through the week, weekends, and during holiday schedules.
RN EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

One year of RN experience preferred.

Minimum 6 months nephrology experience required before working independently with no other Dialysis RNs.

Desired for individual to be or become a Certified Nephrology Nurse or Certified Dialysis Nurse.

Demonstrated strong assessment skills related to the critically ill patient.

Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking skills independently.

Successful completion of a training course in the theory and practice of care of the ESRD patient. Basic Dialysis Education program or skills & hospital orientation sign-off(s).
