Must Love Pawz is a locally owned pet boarding, daycare, training, and pet sitting business, located in Latham, NY. Part of our mission is to make the pets (dogs and cats) feel at home while in our care. We need every pet to have a fantastic experience in our clean, safe, and fun environment and that takes a team that is caring, knowledgeable, flexible, and willing to put in extra effort every day.
We are looking to hire full and part time Supervising Dog Play Group - Pet Care Associates. We work in a very physical environment, requiring lots of standing and walking in all types of weather. All associates must be reliable, punctual, self-motivated, a fast learner and a diligent record keeper, all while having a positive attitude. We prefer applicants that have previous dog handling experience with general knowledge of their behavior, a confident and assertive demeanor when working with dogs, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and successfully work both independently and with a team.
AVAILABILITY must be able to work up to 8 hour shifts that may start as early as 5:30am or end as late as 10:30pm, to include weekends and holidays. You will have to work a variation of both day and evening shifts each week.
Additional Requirements:
- Previous dog handling experience and general knowledge of dog behavior, such as group play supervision and one-on-one dog interactions.
- A confident and assertive demeanor when working with dogs to maintain control.
- Reliable transportation because attendance and punctuality are vital in this role.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high pressure environment.
- Good communication skills with a friendly attitude when dealing with clients and team members.
- Ability to follow all directions and comply with company processes and procedures at all times.
- Capable of standing for long periods of time and work in all types of weather.
- Able to work early and late shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Supervising Dog Play Group Responsibilities:
- This is not a position to simply play with dogs, rather one that requires the ability to manage a large group of dogs while remaining calm and assertive.
- Physically able to handle dogs of all sizes and breeds in an off-leash group play environment (average 15 dogs) while ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Integrate new dogs into the play group and evaluate throughout their groups.
- Escort dogs appropriately throughout the facility, including in and out of play groups.
- Observe dog behaviors and their body language to promote positive interactions, in addition to odd behaviors, such as signs of illness or injury to report to management.
- Easily remember dogs’ names, genders, and individual details.
- Maintain a safe environment for all living beings within the facility.
Pet Care Associate Responsibilities:
- Clean and sanitize the facility in adherence with proper cleaning protocols.
- Interact and play with dogs during one-on-one play sessions.
- Escort dogs appropriately throughout the facility (potty time, etc.).
- Perform extra services including dog walks, treadmill operation, rest time (TLC), bathing, nails, etc.
- Administer food, water, and appropriate medication for all pets.
- Maintain a safe environment for all living beings within the facility.
