Position Summary
The Building Technician performs semi-skilled maintenance/repair and remodeling tasks independently or by assisting skilled craft persons/technicians. The Technician is responsible for maintenance and repair work including, but not limited to, connections, painting, and general building preventative maintenance and repairs. The Technician also installs, maintains, and repairs pipes and fixtures associated with heating, cooling, water distribution, and sanitation systems.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Responsible for turning on all lighting when needed
- Lay building materials including, but not limited to, tiles, gypsum, and wall board utilizing specialized tools and equipment
- Repair and install flooring including, but not limited to, wood, carpet, tile, and linoleum
- Perform skilled work in the maintenance and repair of facility
- Perform rough woodworking repair and maintenance
- Repair items that include, but are not limited to, light switches, receptacles, glass, doors, door checks, locks, window frames, tables, and chairs
- Have a general knowledge and understanding of locks and locksets
- Have a general knowledge and understanding of electricity including bulb replacement, outlet and switch installation and breakers.
- Paint a variety of surfaces both inside and outside the building utilizing brushes, spray guns, and rollers
- Perform plaster work and patch plastering on surfaces
- Install pipes and fixtures including, but not limited to, toilets, sinks, urinals, and showers; also responsible for checking water supply connections
- Repair and assembles fittings, valves, service pipes, and drinking fountains for installation
- Modify length of pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing materials as needed for a building
- Use saws and pipe cutters as necessary
- Test and repair plumbing systems for leaks, obstructions and other problems
- Analyze problems and identify appropriate tools and materials for repair
- Perform inspections of plumbing systems to identify and replace worn parts
- Install and maintain hot water heating systems
- Cut openings for pipes in walls, and ceilings
- Develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures
- Transport, set-up, breakdown, and install items including, but not limited to, staging, decks, and, equipment for events
- Run snow removal equipment safely
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3-5 years relevant experience required
- Required to supply hand tools of the trade
- Must have knowledge of plumbing and electrical methods and techniques
- Must be able to read, understand, and perform work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints
- Ability to work weekends, evening hours, or holidays as needed and assigned
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing and walking required
- Must be able to lift heavy equipment (50 pounds or more) on a frequent basis
- May be required to work in a kneeling, stooping, bending, or prone position for a prolonged period of time on a frequent basis
- Have far visual acuity, near visual acuity and peripheral vision
- Climb ladders, scaffolding, steps and ramps safely and in a timely manner
- Perform duties safely
- Work in outdoor weather conditions
- Operate a vehicle safely
- Have gross manipulation and fine manipulation of hands, tools and equipment
