Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Authorization Specialist to join our team. As an Authorization Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that physical therapy services are properly authorized and approved by insurance companies. Your knowledge of medical coding, insurance verification, and HIPAA regulations will be essential in this role.
Duties:
- Obtain and verify insurance information from patients
- Review medical records and documentation to determine the need for authorization
- Submit authorization requests to insurance companies
- Follow up on pending authorizations and provide updates to patients and healthcare providers
- Communicate with insurance companies to resolve any issues or discrepancies
- Maintain accurate records of authorizations and related documentation
- Stay up-to-date with changes in insurance policies, codes, and regulations
- Collaborate with medical billing team to ensure accurate billing and reimbursement
Experience:
- Previous experience working in a medical office or dental office setting
- Strong knowledge of medical coding systems such as ICD-9 and ICD-10
- Familiarity with managed care plans and insurance verification processes
- Proficient in using office software and electronic medical records systems
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality
