Summary/Objective
Provide shelter coverage and assist in the overall maintenance of structured shelter environment. As with all shelter staff the support worker is responsible for the development of trusting, supportive and respectful relationships with clients and maintaining a safe and secure environment.
Essential Functions
- Assist in orientation of new families as needed
- Maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment for all shelter families
- Adhere to rules and procedures as they apply to the shift
- Provide client support as deemed appropriate with position
- Transport as required
- Keep shelter team informed of any situations that pose a threat to health & safety to clients and staff
- Assist in the overseeing of facility maintenance to include:
- Monitor & participate in facility cleanliness, including office, staff bathroom, common area, kitchen, and grounds
o Restock cleaning supplies
o Report any needed repairs
- Maintain record keeping on each shift to include:
- Review sign in/out sheets
- Monitor visitors
- Check overnight returns
o Document in logbook all shift activities or concerns
- Sort, distribute, or put away donations
- Ensure cooking is not done after 8:00pm
- Manage evening activities
Additional Duties
o Be available for client emergencies
o Other duties as assigned by Program Director
Required Qualifications, Education, and Experience
o Valid driver's license
o Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people
o Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Able to set and observe appropriate boundaries with clients
- Ability to multi-task and remain calm in demanding and unpredictable situations
Preferred Qualifications, Education, and Experience
o Bilingual
- Previous experience working in a homeless shelter environment or human service field
