Primary Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Paraprofessional to join our team at Mercy High Way, a private Christian school committed to providing exceptional education and support for students with disabilities. As a Paraprofessional, you will work closely with classroom teachers and special education staff to assist students in achieving their academic, social, and emotional goals within a nurturing and inclusive Christian environment.
Status: Non-Exempt Full-Time, (Hourly) 35 hours/week, August-May (10 month schedule)

Competencies
1. Student Support:
- Provide direct support to students with disabilities in the classroom, under the guidance of classroom teachers and special education professionals.
- Assist students with academic tasks, including classwork, assignments, and assessments, by providing individualized instruction and accommodations as needed.
- Foster a positive and supportive learning environment where all students feel valued, respected, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
2. Personalized Assistance:
- Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) as directed by special education staff, addressing students' unique learning needs.
- Support students with daily living skills, self-advocacy, communication, and social interaction, promoting independence and self-confidence in all areas of their development.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and therapists to reinforce classroom instruction and therapeutic activities, ensuring consistency and continuity in students' learning experiences.
3. Classroom Management:
- Assist with classroom organization, setup, and maintenance to create a safe, welcoming, and conducive learning environment for all students.
- Support teachers in implementing strategies and technique that includes encouragement, acceptance, positive reinforcement and redirection as needed.
- Supervise students during transitions, group activities, and independent work periods, providing guidance and support as needed to promote engagement and participation.
4. Communication and Collaboration:
- Maintain open and ongoing communication with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other members of the school team regarding students' progress, challenges, and successes.
- Collaborate with parents, guardians, and caregivers to share information about students' academic progress and overall development, as well as to reinforce strategies and interventions used in the classroom.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development sessions, and training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in supporting students with disabilities effectively.

Educational and Professional Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred).
- Previous experience working with students with disabilities in an educational or caregiving setting.
- Knowledge of special education practices, techniques, and strategies for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, students and families.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with individuals with disabilities, grounded in Christian values and principles.
- Ability to adapt to changing needs and environments, prioritize tasks, and remain calm under pressure in challenging situations.
- Willingness to uphold the mission, values, and policies of the school, including a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
