The Policy Associate will support a wide range of strategic activities for a national organization representing not-for-profit hospice, palliative, and advanced illness providers across the nation, with an emphasis on policy support, development, and analysis. The ability to pursue research questions, analyze complex and evolving trends and synthesize and clearly communicate findings in a fast-paced environment are core requirements of the position. The associate will also be responsible for handling day-to-day project management tasks associated with various NPHI forums, workgroups, and policy/regulatory initiatives. Additionally, the associate will work cohesively with the team to support member relations, stay organized in the face of shifting priorities, and work independently and under tight deadlines when necessary.
The associate would work in close collaboration with NPHI’s policy team, including the Policy Director and Chief Policy Officer, to advance NPHI’s policy, regulatory, and advocacy goals. The Associate should have an interest in healthcare policy and a willingness to learn more about advanced illness, hospice, and palliative care policy issues. The Associate will eventually be given the opportunity to interface with members, external stakeholders, and government officials on these topics.
The Associate will also be a member of the Healthsperien, LLC team supporting select activities for our firm’s health care clients, with an emphasis on providing regulatory, policy, and strategic advice. Clients include some of the country’s top health plans, provider organizations, industry coalitions, and innovators. This position is based in our Washington, D.C. office with opportunities for virtual work.

Draft policy and regulatory summaries; collect and collate information to inform rule comment letters, policy whitepapers, advocacy materials, and presentations.

Support the development of ad-hoc policy and regulatory updates for members.

Conduct background research and produce summaries of various policy and regulatory issues.

Interface with member program leaders and staff in various NPHI workgroups, forums, etc.

Support the member event/meeting planning process.

Project manage various initiatives across different lines of work.

Other tasks as assigned, including but not limited to, supporting the NPHI Innovation Lab as necessary.

Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in a relevant field and/or 1-3 years of experience in health care policy.

Knowledge of and/or interest in hospice care, the Medicare hospice benefit, and advanced illness.

Strong research and analytical skills and familiarity with key health care publications and data sources.

Experience monitoring, summarizing, and analyzing federal legislation and regulatory materials.

Excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to present complex information to internal and external audiences.
