Position Summary:
Prepares hot and cold food using a variety of production tools, techniques and equipment. Ensures food is fresh, high quality and prepared under sanitary conditions with safe food handling practices. Assist with food orders and guides other cooks during shift.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees all food production and employees in Dining Services Department.
- Guides and assists the staff in food preparation, proper cooking techniques and use of food products.
- Reviews production with staff on a daily basis.
- Assists in ordering and receiving of foods. Inspects deliveries to ensure wholesome foods are received in correct quantities.
- Assures that prepared foods are distributed on time to designated area for scheduled meal service.
- Checks and monitors food temperatures through the production process to ensure food safety.
- Ensure all catering and functions are ready and delivered.
- Ensures work area is orderly and sanitation practices are enforced at all times.
- Follows safety precautions when using kitchen equipment.
- Demonstrates responsibility for department security.
- Ability to understand and be able to prepare therapeutic diets.
- Attends in-service training programs for food service employees.
- Follows infection control procedures related to Dining Services Department.
- Ensures staff follow and observe all policies and procedures for food safety, sanitation and work safety. Coaches cooks for appropriate practices as needed.
- Set up work station/steam table according to daily production sheets.
