DIRECTOR
OFFICE OF MARKETING and COMMUNICATIONS
SUMMARY
This position is critical to establishing and executing the strategy for marketing and communications for SkillsUSA. The director manages staff members in the Office of Marketing and Communications in the development of content for the national website; promotional materials; videos; and social media content as well as national programming; and other related marketing and campaign materials. The director reviews and leads content development throughout the organization to ensure clear, consistent communications that support the SkillsUSA brand message, and is responsible for the promotion of SkillsUSA to the news media.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Five to seven years of experience in marketing and/or communications, including writing, editing, layout and production. Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, or a related field preferred. The ideal candidate should possess the ability to analyze information, think creatively, develop and share a vision for marketing and communication and track progress towards obtaining the goals while leading a collaborative and high-functioning team. In addition, the individual should be deadline driven, detail oriented with demonstrable proofreading skills and knowledge of standard editorial style guidelines and have excellent oral and written communications skills. Extensive experience required with the following software: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office and other programs. Also expected: excellent organization and consensus-building skills, analytical skills; ability to work on multiple projects; ability to work with diverse groups; ability to work independently; proof of innovative approaches to member communications; and efficient and effective resource management. Experience in developing and implementing marketing and communications plans, editorial policies and calendars, and budget. Nonprofit membership association experience a plus, as well as a working knowledge of social media and video production.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Marketing Strategies: Develop comprehensive marketing strategies aligned with the organization’s overall goals and objectives. This involves understanding the target market of all stakeholder groups, and social media trends to identify opportunities for growth.
- Brand Management: Manage and enhance the organization’s brand image and reputation through effective brand positioning, messaging, and visual identity. Ensure brand consistency across all channels and communications.
- Marketing Campaigns: Plan, execute, and measure multi-channel marketing campaigns to drive brand awareness, membership growth, and partnership activation. This includes online and offline channels such as digital advertising, social media, email marketing, events, and more.
- Digital Marketing: Oversee digital marketing efforts, including website management, SEO, SEM, content marketing, social media marketing, and online advertising.
- Market Research and Analysis: Conduct market research, stakeholder surveys, and competitive analysis to gain insights into stakeholder preferences, behaviors, and market trends. Use data-driven insights to refine marketing strategies and tactics.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of marketing professionals, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the marketing team.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment and integration of marketing efforts with overall organization objectives.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the marketing budget, allocating resources effectively to maximize ROI and achieve desired outcomes.
- Performance Tracking and Reporting: Monitor and analyze marketing performance metrics and KPIs to track progress towards goals and optimize marketing initiatives. Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management.
Requirements
- 5-7 years developing national marketing strategies
- 5 years leading a team and/or department
- Experience developing new organization-wide brand
- Expert in membership marketing, content development, brand strategies and have previous experience managing budgets and talented teams
- Proven track record of being a doer and are continuously innovating, inspiring and pushing growth
- Experience in a managerial role

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: Supervises all staff within the Office of Marketing and Communications. Has authority to review all member and partner communications to ensure consistency with editorial and graphic standards related to the SkillsUSA brand.
