The QMS RN possesses knowledge of Veterans Health Administration (VHA) regulations, VHA handbooks and directives, Navy regulations and guidelines, current standards of care, and compliance guidelines. Possesses knowledge and experience related to the Joint Commission, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), Long Term Care Institute (LTC!), Office of Inspector General (01G), Department of Defense (DoD), Navy, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) and other internal and external agency regulations and requirements. Assist in facilitating and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Healthcare Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (HFMEA) processes, and rapid improvement events.
- The QMS is assigned responsibility for their assigned quality management program area activities for the Medical Center and all off-site locations.
- The QMS demonstrates performance that improves the care for a group of patients.
- They are responsible for participation in the documented outcomes at the program level.
- The QMS participates in facility councils, committees, and workgroups.
- The QMS collects data, monitors staff compliance with relevant policies, directives, and standards, provides reports detailing trends, and provides direct staff support to all services in planning, designing, integrating, implementing, modifying, and administering, a comprehensive quality management program area.
- The QMS works in concert with leaders and others to sustain a culture of safety, modeling High Reliability Organization (HRO) practices.
- The QMS performs duties directly contributing to high quality and safe patient care within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). Duties require the ability to apply specialized principles and practices to ensure a systems approach to healthcare delivery.
This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments. The health care field is a very changing spectrum which requires constant updating of knowledge. It is therefore important that the incumbent participates in continuing education that will enhance health care skills and knowledge. Other duties may be assigned in support of the facilities mission.
