The Front-End Web Designer is responsible for web design work. The incumbent will create visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces for Internet and intranet pages and front-facing web applications; assist with creating, implementing and maintaining the architecture and layout of web pages within a content management system; and ensure a cohesive and optimized user experience across web products with a focus on responsiveness, efficiency, effectiveness, usability and accessibility. This position will proactively work with the Communications team, IT, Executive staff, members of TRS leadership and executive team, and agency employees.
The Front-End Web Designer Senior is responsible for complex web design work. The incumbent will create visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces for Internet and intranet pages and front-facing web applications; create, implement and maintain the architecture and layout of web pages within a content management system; and ensure a cohesive and optimized user experience across web products with a focus on responsiveness, efficiency, effectiveness, usability and accessibility. This position will proactively work with the Communications team, IT, Executive staff, members of TRS leadership and executive team, and agency employees.
This is a hybrid position requiring onsite work conducted at our TRS office in Austin, TX approximately two to three times a week or as required for business needs.
Vacancy will be filled at one of two levels - Front-end Web Designer or Front-end Web Designer, Senior. Selected applicant will be offered the position that most closely matches their education and experience.
Salary Range
Intermediate $70,276 - $87,845
Senior $85,034 - $106,293
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Front-end Web Design
- Plans, creates and implements responsive designs and mock-ups for new web pages and web sections.
- Assists with creating and implementing design standards for front-end user interfaces.

- Translates mock-ups into Content Management System web elements.
- Evaluates and recommends improvements in web architecture, visual design, usability, and accessibility for existing digital content.
- Consults with business areas on needs for new web content to inform the design and organization of templates or web sections.
- Serves as a subject matter expert on front-end web design and usability. (Senior)
- Provides ongoing input on user interfaces for web pages and applications to maximize usability and ensure cohesion and consistency.
- Assists with implementing new CMS features and functionality.
- Assist with monitoring and implementing emerging technologies and best practices in front-end web development.
- Recommends and helps implement new CMS features and functionality. (Senior)

- Works closely with IT to ensure front-end and back-end support are working in tandem.
Website Management
- Assists with creating policies and procedures to manage approval and governance of website design and organization.
- Assists with reviewing and approving departmental requests for website posts.
- Assists with the procurement, selection, and purchasing of software products for website platforms and maintenance.
- Assists with coordinating with Information Technology (IT) to develop new and improved metrics to analyze website activity.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in web design, computer science or a closely related field.
- High school diploma or equivalent and additional full-time experience in front-end web design, web development, web technology or related experience may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
Required Experience
- Four (4) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in front-end web design, web development, web technology or related experience.
- One (1) year of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience working with HTML, JSP, and CSS.
- One (1) year of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience working with content management systems.
- One (1) year of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience with web governance.
- Six (6) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in front-end web design, web development, web technology or related experience. (Senior)
- Two (2) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience working with HTML, JSP, and CSS. (Senior)
- Two (2) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience working with content management systems. (Senior)
- Two (2) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience with web governance. (Senior)
- Experience may be concurrent.
- A master's degree or doctoral degree in a closely related field may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
Required Registration, Certification, or Licensure
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Drupal and Microsoft SharePoint Office 365. (Senior)
