We are currently seeking a Hospital Accountant committed to positive change and a “start-up culture” at Insight Hospital & Medical Center, a 168-year-old anchor on Chicago’s South Side serving the poor and uninsured.
Under the supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Accountant performs a variety of professional accounting duties such as cash flow and scheduling, monitoring various general ledger accounts, preparing journal entries, preparing & updating financial statements/reports, analyzing revenues and expenditures, and conducting special projects, as assigned. Serves as a resource person in
dealing with complex accounting problems.
These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordancewith the mission, values and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and guests.
Responsibilities
- Prepare both Microsoft Excel and Electronic System generated versions of financial statements and reports relating to financial performance.
- Conduct variance analyses between actual and budget.
- Ensure accounting transactions have the proper classification inaccordance with general accepted accounting principles. Ensuring the local RHM and system office general ledger chart of accounts and department cost centers are setup in the general ledger accounting system.
- Serve as primary or secondary person for reconciling fixed assets including capital expenditures reporting, budget preparation, and assist department managers in the preparation of preparing business plans for capital projects.
- Prepare journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations and resolve outstanding issues.
- Serve as resource person in providing assistance to other accountants and managers both within and outside the Finance Department.

Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required)
- Previous experience in NFOR Accounting Software System & Krono’s Payroll System (Preferred)
- Two to Three years of experience in accounting/finance setting (Healthcare setting preferred)
- Knowledge of computerized spreadsheets and personal computer skills.
- Analytical skills necessary to conduct and solve complex accounting problems.
- Ability to perform detailed variance review and financial analysis.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively with management and other support staff.
- Manage projects through completion with limited supervision required.
- Strong work ethic required.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
