This is an entry level position in real estate development and provides exposure and participation in all aspects of the development process from project inception, through construction completion and lease-up. The Development Assistant Project Manager is expected to provide administrative, analytical and project management support to Project Managers, who are the company lead for specific development projects. The Development Assistant Project Manager may also assist Development Directors and Principals on an as needed basis. The Development Assistant Project Manager will primarily though assist Project Managers executing projects in their portfolios across a wide range of geographies including New York City, Westchester, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley. The role is for an entrepreneurial person who has excellent attention to detail, an understanding of finance, urban planning or engineering and passion to learn all aspects of real estate development.
As the Assistant Project Manager advances professionally, they will have the opportunity to become Project Managers and begin independently managing their own development projects.
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate project meetings, responsible for meeting logistics, preparation and taking meeting minutes.
- Timely preparation of quality correspondence both with internal team members and external contacts, as applicable.
- Assist with creation of PowerPoint presentations, market reports and analyses, compiling applications and drafting proposals.
- Assist in community engagement through identification of key stakeholders and coordinating meeting scheduling and logistics.
- Assist in creating project schedules, budgets and financial proformas.
- Maintenance of accurate and organized project files both internal and to be shared externally with partners, consultants, and financing parties.
- Assist in managing the development budget and tracking costs as they reflect actuals and projections.
- Support Project Managers in the management of internal and external teams by tracking tasks, follow ups and ensuring the project schedule is being met.
- Track development site RFPs issued by public and private landowners and work with relevant project team to prepare submissions.
- Assist Development Finance Manager in tracking invoices and payments and developing spend reports.
- Assist Project Managers in coordinating with internal and external teams on construction oversight as applicable.
- Assist Project Managers throughout financial closing and conversion processes to ensure accurate file management, scheduling, and task completion.
Required skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, such as but not limited to: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to use SketchUp, InDesign and/or AutoCAD software is a plus
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong internal/external collaboration skills as well as sound judgement
Education & Experience:
- BA or BS required, with 3+ years of professional and/or internship experience in real estate, finance, engineering and/or urban planning preferred
- Demonstrated ability to have sound judgement, a strong work ethic, attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism.
