FORMA Construction Company is seeking to supplement its preconstruction department with a highly competent and motivated individual looking for a challenge and opportunity. FORMA is a long time Western Washington contractor providing construction services ranging from small JOC contracts up to $50M K-12 educational facilities delivered under design-bid-build, design-build, negotiated and GCCM contracting methods. This position is in our Olympia office.
Estimator Responsibilities
This position is responsible for participation in preparing complete estimates and proposals, utilizing documents ranging from concept sketches to complete construction drawings and specifications.
The primary duties are as follows; this is not an all-inclusive list:
- Identifying and measuring all the various components of a variety of construction systems
- Converting measurements into quantities
- Solicit subcontractor and/or supplier information and pricing
- Review project plans and specifications and coordinate with team to confirm complete scope
- Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude
- Assist in Good Faith Efforts and outreach
- Prepare instructions to bidders, bid form and other bid solicitation information
- Ensure the flow of project information is maintained and documented
- Review constructability issues with operational staff
- Analyze alternate means and methods to determine the most economical alternative
- Build effective relationships with customers, design teams, specialty contractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer's expectations
- Actively participate in industry, client and community relations to enhance company image
- Participate in the transfer of information on successful projects
- Participate in periodic reviews and visits to projects as appropriate
Candidates should be self-starting and highly motivated, with the ability to operate efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must be able to estimate multiple projects at one time independently as well as in a team. Additional desirable attributes include, approximately 5 consecutive years of commercial estimating experience, experienced with leading estimates in excess of $5 million in hard bid, negotiated and conceptual projects. Superior organizational, interpersonal, communication and computer skills are an absolute requirement. Experience with structural concrete and wood framing estimating is a plus.
Proficiency in MS Office required. Experience with Timberline, OST, MC2-ICE, Bidtek and Revit/Navisworks is desirable.
A bachelors’ degree in construction management or civil engineering is preferred, or the candidate must possess equivalent combinations of technical training or experience. Salary is commensurate with experience.
