Summary: Pre/Post/OR Perioperative Staff Nurses share in the responsible of the patient’s admission to the facility, comprehensive pre-operative care, surgical, and immediate post-operative care.
POSITION DUTIES
1. To utilize specialized nursing knowledge and discriminative judgment while giving direct and indirect patient care.
2. Performs thorough and accurate continual patient assessment, anticipating potential problems and reporting pertinent assessments to the anesthesiologist, supervisor, and/or surgeon appropriately.
3. Demonstrates good nursing knowledge base and rationale for actions, including cardiac monitoring.
4. Supervises and directs, as delegated, the activities of non-professional personnel.
5. Participates as a team member in planning and implementation of patient care; takes responsibility for an adequate patient load, reviews schedule for next day with preference cards.
6. Monitors surgery schedule continually, communicating arrivals, cancellations, delays; communicates with reception desk, contacts patients or surgeons who are late.
7. Maintains current CPR (OR) certification and ACLS. PALS (PACU) Required after hire.
POSITION CHARACTERISTICS
The Pre/Post/OR peri-operative Staff Nurse must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, and be currently licensed to practice nursing in the State of Maryland. A minimum of one year experience in acute care is required. Cardiac monitored and GI experience preferred. The successful candidate must have the ability to work independently as well as function within a team; have the ability to assess patient needs, determine priorities, plan and direct pre/post or surgical nursing care of the patient; present good public relation skills; and possess the ability to handle stress.
It is necessary to perform some overtime beyond regularly scheduled work hours to provide patient care.
