ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN/WWTP OPERATOR
Job Summary: The Environmental Technician is responsible for assisting project teams engaged in Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operation and Maintenance (O&M), environmental investigations and remediation projects. It is preferred that the candidate be located in or can relocate to West Virginia. Duties include municipal WWTP O&M, remedial system install and O&M, field sampling, and equipment maintenance. Plumbing/electrical experience preferred. Will involve activities on contaminated sites and may include hazardous wastes and/or chemicals. Travel and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use required. Overtime may be required. Degree in Environmental Science or related field preferred but not required. WV Class S WWTP Operator certification preferred but not required. Word/Excel knowledge preferred. OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER training preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license (Class B CDL preferred) and be able to pass pre-employment physical with drug screen.
Primary Responsibilities and JOB DUTIES:
- Collection of samples from environmental media (including soil, water, groundwater, wastewater effluent).
- Completion of field sampling and analysis.
- Preparation of complete field documentation.
- Equipment maintenance
- Municipal WWTP O&M
- Remediation system installation
- Remediation system O&M
- Work includes activities on environmentally contaminated sites and may include hazardous wastes and/or chemicals. PPE use required.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- 0 to 2 years of experience in environmental consulting, remediation, or a related field.
- Specific experience that will be considered to meet this requirement includes:
- Field sampling of groundwater, soil, sediment, air
- Remediation system implementation and O&M (pump and treat systems, leachate management, landfill flares, in-situ remediation, etc.)
- Understanding of the design and maintenance requirements for municipal wastewater treatment plants

- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
OTHER REQUIRED CRITERIA:
- 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training/8-Hour Refresher training if needed.
- Current valid driver’s license and ability to pass a HAZWOPER medical exam and drug screen.
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
PREFERRED Qualifications:
- At a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science discipline preferred. Examples include:
- Geosciences
- Chemistry
- Environmental or Civil Engineering
- Environmental Science
- Experience with remediation systems operation and long term monitoring (LTM).
- Experience with asbestos inspections and reporting.
- Plumbing/electrical/mechanical experience preferred.
WORK CONTEXT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Regularly works in outdoor conditions that may include inclement weather, such as heat and humidity, rain, extreme cold with snow/ice.
- Possible exposure to dust, asphalt, and hazardous materials.
- May work in an environment with close proximity to moving vehicles and mechanical parts.
- Must have the ability to work in full PPE including respiratory protection which may include SCBA, APR, SAR.
- Must understand and follow KEMRON SOPs for specific task(s).
- Must be able to travel to work/project sites and traverse all types of terrain, often only on foot.
- Must be able to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned tasks.
- Must have the ability to move about to accomplish tasks or move from one workstation to another within an office environment.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
