The Raytown Police Department is seeking to fill two open positions in the Communications Unit. The Department provides a $3000.00 hiring incentive and the starting pay is $20.95 per hour for those with no previous law enforcement dispatch experience. For those with previous experience the hourly rate is based on years of experience and can range up to $27.95 per hour. An additional 5% shift differential will apply for employees working a night shift. Experience is not required and applicants are not required to reside in the City of Raytown. Essential functions of this position consist of:
1. Receive emergency service calls from the public requesting law enforcement, ambulance, fire or other emergency service; determine nature, location and priority of emergency; dispatch emergency units as necessary; answer regular phone lines transferring, referring or receiving information; contact outside city suppliers for power lines down and water main breaks.
2. Monitor radio traffic from 5 radio channels; process all requests of police personnel on radio as needed; record and document by computer entry all calls dispatched; provide timely and accurate directions to public safety units responding to emergency calls; maintain daily log of all field calls and units dispatched.
3. Operate the in-house computer system for call entries and inquires; verify warrant/stop order, run inquiry in computer on person/property/vehicle; operate the Vesta 911 computer which controls the phone operations of 911 and secondary lines.
4. Use telecommunications systems to coordinate emergency calls and relay information and assistance requests involving other law enforcement, emergency medical and fire agencies; coordinate tows as needed; operate TDD as needed.
5. Answer non-emergency calls for assistance; answer and dispatch maintenance service emergencies during evenings, weekends and holidays; contact appropriate personnel for response.
6. Monitor Weather channel for impending severe weather, disaster or other civil defense matter; monitor the systems for emergency switch trip from police and public works personnel; monitor the camera for the police department and city hall for suspicious, dangerous and illegal activities.
7. Enter, update and retrieve information from MULES/NCIC and other criminal information systems relating to wanted persons, warrants, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles and other information; enter stolen property that is received during shift.
8. Perform data entry of various records in to the computer system; validate all files entered in to the computer; enter address advisories, extra watches and call history into the CAD system; print and prepare vacation watch and crime watch entries; enter criminal history and driving records requests, complete log and distribute to requesting party.
9. Inquire through the MULES system request for information including license plates, addresses, autos, and VIN's.
10. Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
11. Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
12. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Must be at least 18 years of age
Possess a valid driver’s license
Successfully complete criticall testing
Pass a comprehensive background check

Office environment with exposure to computer screens and emergency situations. Must be able to multi-task, and successfully respond to high stress situations, maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time; general manual dexterity.
