ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Curriculum Planning and Execution
- Develop and execute a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate curriculum for early childhood education.
- Create detailed lesson plans that align with state and federal curriculum standards, including math and science-based activities.
- Foster a child-centered classroom environment with clearly identified centers and choice-based activities.
- Showcase children's work through engaging classroom displays.
- Develop and implement appropriate IEPs for each special needs student in the class.
- Continuously assess students' performance and identify remediation needs.
- Document and track student progress using daily goal sheets.
- Supervise Teacher Assistants during instructional time to ensure effective support for students.
- Actively engage in team meetings, staff meetings, and individual discipline meetings.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching strategies and promote student success.
- Maintain accurate attendance records for all children in the class.
- Complete educational reports and goals in a timely manner.
- Participate in CPSE and CSE meetings as required by program needs.
- Adhere to federal, state, and local regulations and licensing requirements.
- Maintain regular contact with families through notebooks and/or phone calls.
- Plan and organize appropriate educational trips to enhance student learning experiences.
- Participate in ICCD's annual Open House and other mandatory events.
- Develop a schedule and environment that aligns with the needs of the children in the class and promotes best practices in early childhood education.
- Maintain class inventory and ensure adequate supply of teaching materials.
- Perform any and all other such duties as may be deemed necessary for the safe, efficient and effective operation of the agency.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to move freely around the classroom, school building, and outdoor areas to interact with students, facilitate activities, and provide supervision. This includes the ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, kneel, and navigate stairs.
- Capable of lifting and carrying classroom materials, equipment, and supplies, which may include books, and other items as needed. Lifting up to 30 lbs, following proper lifting techniques, and seeking assistance when necessary.
- Ability to lift and carry cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Handling assisting with toileting and diapering as needed, to ensure the health and well-being of students. This may involve physically assisting students with personal care tasks. Handling possible exposure to bodily fluids or potential health hazards (following proper protocols and safety measures).
- Following safety guidelines to ensure a clean and safe environment for children.
REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: New York State Certification in Early Childhood Special Education or BA/MA in Special Education, and eligible for NYS Supplemental Certification in Special Education.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing IEPs, including setting goals, selecting appropriate instructional methods, and monitoring progress. Familiarity with the legal requirements and documentation processes associated with IEPs.
- Ability to adapt and modify instructional materials, methods, and assessments to meet the diverse learning styles and abilities of students.
- Strong behavior management skills to create a positive and structured classroom environment. Ability to implement effective behavior management strategies, promote positive behavior, and de-escalate challenging situations.
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to actively participate in team meetings, contribute insights, and collaborate on student interventions and support plans.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to provide clear and concise instructions, write progress reports, and facilitate effective parent-teacher communication.
- Proficiency in utilizing educational technology tools and software to enhance instruction, engage students, and differentiate learning. Skill in leveraging assistive technology devices and resources to support students with disabilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify barriers to learning, develop creative solutions, and implement interventions to address academic, behavioral, and social-emotional challenges.

Pay: $68,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
