Polsinelli is seeking an Infrastructure Platform Engineer. Reporting to the Infrastructure Team Lead, this role can be hired as remote or hybrid, provided the candidate is in a state/jurisdiction wherein we practice.
Position Overview:
Following are the core competencies for the position of Infrastructure Platform Engineer. In addition to these competencies, all staff is required to be familiar with and follow the Firm’s policies, procedures and practices as noted in the Firm’s Policies and Procedures Manual. Strong attendance, professional dress and a high level of business etiquette are examples of such practices.
Key Requirements:
- Strong experience with VMware and VCenter
- Ability to champion change and transformation in technology related to Systems Management and DevOps
- Strong Experience with infrastructure monitoring and troubleshooting Azure cloud environments (Nagios, Splunk, Netbox)
- Strong Experience with physical data center build, monitoring and maintenance plans(Security cameras, IDRAC, UPS systems)
- Understanding of modern networking/security architecture models and strategies
- Proficiency in scripting languages for automation (Bash, Python, PowerShell)
- Successful transformation efforts in cloud journey to include IaC/IaaS/PaaS
- Experience administering Linux OS, maintaining with Ansible
- Strong Experience working with Microsoft Azure cloud platform and ephemeral infrastructure
- Azure Skills in Azure automation tools (ARM templates, Azure CLI, Bicep), Azure security best practices (PIM, Entra ID, RBAC), managing and scaling Azure resources (App Services, Registered Apps, Storage, VMs)
- Experience with IaC platforms (GitHub Enterprise, Puppet Enterprise a plus and/or Terraform)
- Experience with IAM (Okta, AD, Entra ID)
Preferred Competencies:
- Drive the maintenance, design, development, and security of the infrastructure systems
- Collaborate with Architects and other peers to champion the continued adoption to automation and Infrastructure as Code for the Infrastructure team and the IT organization
- Collaborate with the Dev Team to administer GitHub and integrate IaC into the CI/CD pipeline
- Advise IT leadership on technology improvements and overall direction for all areas under team purview
- Plan and implement equipment refresh to maintain current and up to date Exchange messaging environment, this includes hardware and software upgrades, server firmware updates, and OS/Application patches and staying involved within the industry through conferences, training, and vendor interaction to maintain the messaging system according to best practice
- Provide backup for IAM, AD Automation, Secure application access
- Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems
- Demonstrate good understanding of Cloud and Data Center concepts and best practices
- Leverage your expertise to actively influence the systems architecture within the firm including cloud and on-premises environments
- Support Disaster Recovery Efforts and failover/load balancing between the firm’s Data Centers
- Ensure that systems related documentation is maintained and kept up to date.
- Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end
Technical Requirements:
- 5+ years of IT Systems Administrator, IT Systems Engineer or DevOps Engineer experience
- 5+ years of on-premise and Cloud administration experience
- 3 to 5+ years of automation in shell scripting experience
Immediate Goals:
- Quickly learn and become proficient in system and environment management across our 2 data centers and remote satellite sites
- Familiarization with datacenter monitoring
- Nagios monitoring environment
- APC power protection and distribution environment
- vCenter, Network environment
- In house Splunk apps and environment
- Puppet Enterprise environment
- Deep understanding of our Linux environment and Ansible playbooks
- Ansible Playbook development and enhance current playbooks
- Ansible DevOps and automation environment (non-AAP)
- Refresh Nagios environment
- Develop an Infrastructure as Code template for Azure VMs
