Working Relationship
Works closely with the animal care associates, client care associates, and our veterinary staff. They will also provide assistance to animal care and control when needed.
Job Duties
- Enthusiastically serve the public, staff, and volunteers with a consistent, positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Answer calls on multi-line phone systems and respond to questions from clients regarding policies, hours, surrender or general animal information.
- Provide information to the public regarding current risks to pets, preventative pet care, alternatives to surrender, and available resources offered in the community.
- Assist with scheduling veterinary services for adoptable pets.
- Performing administrative duties such as checking email & mailbox, filing, inventory of supplies, processing animals coming in or leaving the shelter in the shelter software database, and checking messages and returning calls.
- Efficiently manage workload & have attention to detail on all tasks.
- Handle tight deadlines and maintain composure under stress.
- Maintain the general cleanliness of the front office, including garbage, recycling, and office closet space.
Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- 18 years or older
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Availability to work occasional holidays and weekends.
- Demonstrate ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and as part of team
- A genuine desire to serve the mission of the organization

- Must be able to cope with death, due to injury, illness, or euthanasia
- Ability to process information rapidly and accurately
- Ability to recognize a need for assistance and ask for help
- Ability to cope with frustrating situations and remain calm
Preferences
- Previous customer service experience
- Spanish speaking is a plus
Other Requirements
1. Have or be able to obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License
2. Must pass a Washington State Patrol Background Check
Working Conditions
While performing the functions of this job, the receptionist is regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Ability to safely handle all types of animals. Must be able to physically restrain animals, safe & humanely. Noise level in the work environment is often loud. May be exposed to unpleasant odors. May be exposed to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.
