Summary:
The Central Educational Specialist (CES) is responsible for improving the quality of patient care delivered through education and collaboration with the health care team. As a centralized educator, the CES plans, implement, and evaluates general patient services orientation, in-service education and continuing education activities. The CES acts as a change agent, professional role model, mentors new staff, and nursing practice and patient advocate. This position coordinates organizational and departmental educational activities as assigned.

Responsibilities:
Demonstrates excellent customer service.
Coordinates, plans, implements and evaluates core orientation and training.
Participates in hospital wide continuous quality improvement activities to improve performance and patient outcomes.
Collaborates with health care team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate in-service education programs.
Coordinates and evaluates programs designed to meet regulatory educational requirements.
Designs, plans, implements and evaluates programs to validate staff competence and facilitates completion of the competence checklists.
Provides and evaluates continuing education that meets the American Nurses Credentialing Center criteria and the Michigan Nurses Associate CNE criteria.
Collaborates with Unit Based Education, Specialists, Clinical Specialist and others to develop, implement, communicate, educate, and evaluate standards of care.
Participates as a leader or member of key departmental and hospital committees.
Serves as a consultant for educational activities within Covenant HealthCare System.
Keeps abreast of current research and standards of care to enhance the education provided for Patient Services staff.
Demonstrates effective proactive situational leadership while working within the framework of Covenant’s mission, vision and values.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Current Michigan licensure to practice as an RN with a BSN required.
Master's Degree in nursing or education required, or a certification in Nursing Professional Development (RN-BC) required.
RN with clinical expertise who commits to entering a Master's Degree program with completion within three (3) years of hire or transfer, or commits to Nursing Professional Development (RN-BC) certification within two (2) years, will be considered.
Minimum of three (3) years experience in clinical specialty area required.
Minimum of two (2) years of education experience required.
BLS Instructor required or within 6 months of hire of transfer.
ACLS or PALS Instructor preferred
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Computer competence, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
Knowledge of standard office equipment.
Clinical expertise.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to work well with the public and able to be tactful in often hectic and stressful situations.
Sound judgement in handling confidential or sensitive issues and material.
Ability to develop and lead teams.
