Description
The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University is pleased to invite applications for the Visiting Assistant Professor of Academic Support and Bar Preparation. Our visiting faculty benefit from being part of an active and engaged law school community of scholars and teachers. All visiting professors are warmly encouraged to participate in our workshops, conferences, and other aspects of academic life and the Law School and the University. We also offer financial support for scholarships and teaching development for our visiting faculty.
The Law School’s Academic Support professors have primary responsibility for teaching and counseling students to help them adjust to the academic demands of law school and to develop skills to reach their full academic potential for performance in law school, on the bar exam, and after graduation. This is a twelve-month position, which requires a presence on campus throughout the calendar year. Responsibilities include:
(1) Teaching first-year and upper-level courses and workshops for students who need academic support.
(2) Teaching upper-level pre-bar preparation course.
(3) Assisting in planning and implementing first-year orientation programs.
(4) Working with students in individual and small-group sessions.
(5) Identifying and assisting students who need additional academic support.
(6) Designing and implementing innovative academic support programs.
(7) Assisting with the law school’s bar exam preparation programs and events throughout the calendar year.
