Job Description
We are seeking a recent graduate (within the past two years) to join our team as an AI Innovation Fellow. Davidson is kicking off the summer with a faculty-targeted AI program using some of the commonly available commercial AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and Elicit). This unique position will focus on educating and collaborating with faculty to develop and integrate AI solutions across various disciplines using these tools. The AI Innovation Fellow will be crucial in demystifying AI technologies and fostering Davidson faculty’s critical engagement with AI for pedagogy and research. This position will be an integral component in the collaboration between teams from Davidson’s Technology & Innovation and E.H. Little Library, who are partnering to bring AI Innovation to the College community. The incumbent will be a proactive communicator, splitting time between the library and T&I offices (roughly 70/30).
Responsibilities
- Educational Outreach : Conduct one-on-one and group training sessions with faculty to encourage critical engagement with AI concepts, tools, and applications.
- AI Solution Development : Collaborate with faculty, library, and T&I staff to design and implement AI-driven projects and solutions tailored to academic needs.
- Presentation and Advocacy : Regularly present on AI topics at college events to build awareness and understanding among the campus community.
- Feedback and Adaptation : Gather feedback on the use of AI in academic settings and adapt strategies to increase effectiveness and acceptance.
- Continuous Learning : Stay updated with the latest AI trends and technologies that can benefit the college and propose innovative ideas.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree obtained within the last two years. Preference for degrees earned in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Digital Studies, or related fields.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical details in simple terms.
- Proven experience in managing and delivering training sessions.
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills.
- Demonstrable project management experience, preferably in technology-driven projects.
Skills
- Technical Expertise : Strong foundational knowledge in artificial intelligence, machine learning algorithms, and data analysis techniques. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R, or Julia, and tools like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar frameworks.
- Interpersonal Skills : Exceptional interpersonal abilities, including the skill to engage effectively with diverse academic audiences, empathize with users with varied technological proficiencies, and foster a collaborative environment.
- Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to translate complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand language for non-technical stakeholders. Proficiency in creating clear, impactful presentations and educational materials.
- Adaptability and Problem-Solving : Capable of navigating ambiguity and solving complex problems with innovative solutions. Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and changes in an academic setting.
- Project Management : Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and lead projects, ensuring deliverables are achieved on time and within scope. Experience in managing timelines, resources, and stakeholder expectations.
- Advocacy and Promotion : Skills in advocating for the adoption of new technologies and comfort in acting as a spokesperson for AI initiatives on campus.
- Continuous Learning : Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development in the field of AI, with a keen interest in applying learning to enhance educational practices and outcomes.
