Summary:
The Survey Technician will handle the technical tasks required to produce survey deliverables and provide extensive knowledge to project teams for survey solutions. This role involves direct collaboration with the PLS, survey team, project managers, engineering, field crews, and occasionally clients, to accomplish project objectives. The Survey Technician will utilize various software and data, including conventional survey methods, GPS, point clouds from terrestrial and aerial LIDAR, and photogrammetry datasets.
Expected Outcomes in the Role:
- Complete drafting and data processing tasks within the allocated time.
- Produce complete and detailed Survey Field Packs.
- Follow layering conventions and drafting practices.
- Deliver accurate and comprehensive data to all departments.
- Ensure deadlines are met by stepping up when needed.
- Minimize errors in drafting assignments and data processing.
- Develop drafting templates for projects.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness in reviewing infrastructure routes and existing crossings.
- Perform QA/QC on all drafting and data processing tasks.
- Communicate with field crews and generate calculations on demand to support fieldwork.
- Assist team members with their issues.
- Gain a thorough understanding of the Survey/GIS relationship and processes specific to our firm.
Essential Duties:
- Verify the accuracy and correctness of processed data.
- Review Survey Field Packs.
- Draft and QA/QC Survey Plats and Legal Descriptions for PLS Review.
- Draft and QA/QC topographic survey deliverables.
- Draft and QA/QC ALTA deliverables.
- Accurately interpret and draft previously recorded documents.
- Set up templates, draft, and QA/QC Alignment Sheets.
- Assist Project Managers (PMs), Senior Project Managers (Sr. PMs), and Professional Land Surveyors (PLS) with various tasks as needed.
- Participate in screen shares and client calls with PMs, Sr. PMs, and PLS to aid in planning and design.
- Finalize and package deliverables for submission.
- Deliver accurate and comprehensive data to all departments.
- Track and coordinate projects.
Competencies:
- Proficiency in Civil 3D
- Expertise in Trimble Business Center
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Deep understanding of coordinate systems
- Knowledge of the Public Land Survey System
- Familiarity with Aliquot Parts and Metes and Bounds Descriptions
- Skill in Public Records Research
Required Education and Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of survey/drafting experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Assist teammates with questions and issues as needed.
- Help coordinate and organize larger drafting efforts.
Other Information:
- Night and weekend work may be required to meet client deadlines.
- Exposure to various workflows, processes, and data sets will be necessary to assess your aptitude for working with different products.
