Industrial Electrical Estimator
The Marshall Industrial Technologies (MIT) Estimator coordinates and executes the cost estimates for multiple concurrent projects ranging from $50K - $2 Million. The estimator works sales, group and general management, contract administration, and executive management to identify and complete cost optimization efforts. The Estimator is efficient at executing MIT estimating methods technology and tools and complies with required workflows and approvals. The estimator provides support to foreman and job leaders in the conversion of a now bid to an executable project plan.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for examining and determining costs for electrical projects and preparing bids12. The electrical estimator’s responsibilities include determining how long each contracting job will last, researching market prices for project materials and equipment, and communicating with clients to determine the scope of each project3. Electrical estimators perform calculations to outline potential solutions, such as cutting labor costs or switching suppliers, to illustrate how these decisions might impact profitability1. General Responsibilities
- Ensures estimates include full costs necessary to meet all applicable codes and standards associated with the crew disciplines.
- Follows RFQ-BID-Review-Submission Workflow, ensuring that all bids meet financial, utilization, conversion, and safety/regulatory requirements.
- Ensures that safety costs are included in the estimate, including time required for crews to attend toolbox talks, personal protective equipment necessary to complete the project, etc. Consults with Corporate Safety Officer as needed.
- Leads and is responsible for review and analysis of all specifications and underlying requirements and details. Estimator shall muster the required resources to ensure a thorough and details review is completed, and all constraints and requirements are understood.
- Leads and is responsible for the effort to perform expedient and efficient bid/estimate “Strip Outs”, considering internal and external resource utilization. Communicates with general and group management of “Make or Buy” decisions, ensuring lowest cost, highest profit can be achieved.
- Ensures miscellaneous record requests are provided, including Material Test Reports and other Validation Support.
- Assist with the project execution, assisting with vendor selection, crew technical direction, job scheduling and updating, clarifying assumptions around workplans for the coming weeks.
- Leads bid review and risk assessments per MIT Bid Review Process.
- Ensures accuracy of project change orders, coordinating with Foreman, Services Reps, and Project Managers to estimate and submit revised bids/estimates.
- Supports project completion according to all line items included in the estimate..
- Supports Short Interval Control - assists Foreman, Service Rep, Group Manager, and Project Manager in understanding cost performance of the project on a weekly basis. Supports estimate revisions required in cost overrun situations. Participates in root cause investigations for cost overruns
- Engages Procurement and 3rd party vendors to ensure project cost optimization.
- Understand and incorporates into bids complete project specs, drawings, contract requirements, procurement requirements, bids from others/subcontracts, etc.
- Audits and ensures housekeeping conformance of jobsite, including trailers, trucks, laydown, and waste storage areas, to Marshall and/or customer standards.
- Develops and maintains their own technical competence. Assesses and deploys estimating tools and technologies to improve estimating speed and accuracy.
- Handles routine items of the role with minimum time and energy (on automatic).
- Completes other tasks as assigned by Department Manager.
Technical Qualifications
- Has a Journeyman or Electrical Contractor’s License in NJ (preferable, though not required)
- Possess the proficiency to navigate through the NFPA 70 NEC Code Book and interpret the information correctly.
- Has at least 5 years of working experience as a journeyman Estimator or Project manager.
