The Engineering Specialist will be responsible for conducting Safety Analysis for both commercial and military programs per ARP4761 and MIL-STD-882 respectively. Provide engineering solutions to identified problems. Adhere to ODA-UM responsibilities and disciplines as defined by the s ODA Procedures Manual, including at a high level:
- Representation of the FAA for review and approval (as delegated) of Means of Compliance activities
- Maintain competency of applicable FAA Guidance Material
- Approval of Certification Means of Compliance Activities:
- Assessment plans
- Assessment / Certification Reports
- Test witnessing
- Hardware and Test Setup Conformity / Conformity Inspection
- Design releases
- Work with Engineering to ensure Continued Airworthiness of WI product of engines
Qualifications
- 5-15 years of experience working with the FAA or other certifying authority as a Designated Engineering Representative (DER) or Organization Designation Authorization – Unit Member (ODA-UM)
- Currently authorized by the FAA as a DER or ODA-UM for one or more of the following technical disciplines:
- Powerplant Engineering
- Software and Airborne Electronic Hardware
- Knowledgeable / converse with the following Industry Standards and Regulations:
- DO-160, Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Equipment
- DO-254, Design Assurance Guidance for Airborne Electronic Hardwar=
- RP4761, Guidelines and Methods for Conducting the Safety Assessment Process on Civil Airborne Systems and Equipment
- MIL-STD-882, Failure mode effects and criticality analysis (FMECA)
- FAR 14 CFR Part 33. Airworthiness Standards: Aircraft Engines
- Have experience or FAA-delegated approval to conduct the following functions per Order 8110.37
- Design
- Block Tests
- Performance Characteristics
- Software
- Safety Analysis
- Lightning / HIRF Protections
- U.S. Citizenship is required
- Position requires the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Security Clearance if needed. Candidates selected may be subject to a U. S.
