THE BUTLER INSTITUTE OF AMERICAN ART is currently searching for a full-time (32hours/wk) Library & amp; Archives Manager. The position is responsible for maintaining the overall management, organization, interpretation, and planning for The Butler Institute of American Art’s Library and Archives. This person is responsible for providing reference services and public access to the collections for staff and museum visitors and manages all collections in the Library and Archives including, but not limited to: documentary research collections including photographs, slide library, audio-visual and electronic materials, and institutional records, catalogues and archives.
The successful candidate must have:
M.A or M.L.I.S in Archives, Library Sciences, Museum Studies or related field required, with formal training in archives management and preservation. Knowledge, background or interest in Art History desirable.
Minimum 3 years of Archives experience, preferably in a museum or cultural institutional setting.
Prior supervisory or leadership experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of MARC format, Library of Congress Classification, Library of Congress Subject Headings, OCLC, Indexing, cataloging software and information systems.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Demonstrated literacy in MS Office Suite and familiarity with cultural databases.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently as required.
Strong writing, editing and communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all professional matters and in regard to archivedrecords.
Knowledge of archives preservation requirements, storage needs and registrationprocedures for archives.
Visual acuity and ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
