Grants and Gifts Coordinator
NAMI Metro Suburban’s Grants and Gifts Coordinator in an entry-level position that works collaboratively with a dynamic Advancement team to support agency grant funding, resource development, and fundraising goals of NAMI Metro Suburban. Under an overarching mission to improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities affected by mental illness, the position’s primary role will be to coordinate renewal requests for both public and private organizational grants.
About NAMI Metro Suburban: An affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Metro Suburban’s mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities affected by mental illness by providing advocacy, support, and education in the western suburbs of Cook County.

About the Position: Reporting to the Director of Advancement, this is an entry-level position for an early professional interested in growing their experience in the nonprofit sector. This unique role is ideal for candidates looking to develop their skill set in social service administration, grant work, and fundamentals of fundraising for mission-driven work. The Grants and Gifts Coordinator will collaborate with our interdisciplinary agency team to coordinate the successful submissions of grant proposal applications through grant cycles and support fundraising efforts to sustain the organization’s free mental health services and programs. The position will maintain the tracking of grant deadlines, grantor recognition, gift acknowledgment, systems for reporting, and support various fundraising campaigns. Specifically, the position will:
Oversee the grant request and reporting process, working closely with the Director of Advancement to secure and sustain ongoing grant funding and research new opportunities from private and community foundations, community mental health boards, and public grant entities.
· Draft and complete grant applications according to application requirements.
· Research grant opportunities, including grantor priorities, recently funded proposals, requirements, and deadlines.
· Complete documents, forms, and/or reports required by grants throughout their lifecycle.
· Maintain systems for tracking grant information, including application deadlines, reporting
requirements, and grantee recognition; work with Executive Team and Program Managers to ensure reports are completed and submitted.
Serve as an administrator of the organization’s donor database, providing key support in upkeep, organization, maintenance, and data entry.
· Work across teams to ensure the accurate entry and timely acknowledgment of donations, grant payments, and gifts.
· Along with teams and collaborators, assist with the development and implementation of a process and procedure for data entry/ management and utilization of tools within the database.
· Assist with donor touch points (donor outreach communications/gift acknowledgment letters).
Collaborate across the agency to strategize and work toward the long-term growth objectives of the organization, helping to implement strategic fundraising efforts:
· Coordinate with related departments and agency programs, assisting in drafting engaging copy for fundraising campaigns.
· Support annual events and community meetings.
· Work with the Director of Advancement to implement an overall fundraising plan for NAMI Metro Suburban.
General Organizational Support: In addition to essential and ancillary duties, this position is expected to:
· Assist and represent NAMI Metro Suburban in various agency activities, including outreach, and fundraising events, as needed, with occasional evenings and weekends.
· Be readily available to engage and assist with administrative tasks and general communication, including duties not outlined in the job description if needed or as requested.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
Required:
· The candidate should have a passion for mental health equity, with a personal, lived experience of mental health affecting their own or a loved one’s livelihood.
· Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent.
· 1-2 years of previous experience in a professional setting via paid or intern work.
· High proficiency in research and writing
· Very strong written communication skills.
· A spirit of collaboration and alignment to mission-driven work.
· Proficient in the following programs: Microsoft Office 365 Suite
· Superb communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail
· Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams, functions, and departments to manage deadlines.
· Occasionally available outside normal business hours to monitor and engage on digital platforms and attend events.
· Valid driver’s license and car.
Preferred:
· A work history in the nonprofit/social service sector
· Experience with eTapestry or similar CRM
· Experience with OneCause or similar Event Database
· Proficiency in analytics and data interpretation
