The primary purpose of this position is to provide operational support of day to day production activities, and support electrical maintenance activities. The ideal candidate will be involved in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of electrical devices in a power plant facility.
Detailed Job Description
· To promote safety by ensuring overall safe equipment condition and operation through enforcement of housekeeping standards, policies and procedures
· To provide electrical support to the company power plants by safely maintaining all existing electrical systems including generators, high voltage electric, batteries, switchgear, motors, instrumentation, controls, relays, breakers, motor operated valves, etc.
· Perform installation of electric power plant equipment to support continued maintenance. Such installations may include, temporary feeds for contractors working onsite, conduit and cable for various new controls installations, instrumentation installation or modernization, or minor switchgear upgrades.
· Support the 24 x 7 operation of the facility when necessary. Employee will be required to be available on call to support off hour start-ups, shutdowns, and normal operation.
· Responsible for performing the necessary testing, repairing and preventative maintenance on hydraulic, electrical, electronic control systems and instrumentation along with ensuring safe and efficient plant operations.
Experience & Qualification Requirements
This post is for an Electrical Technician and candidates should have the following experience:
· Bachelors or Associates degree in Engineering or Technology related field
· 3-5 years’ experience as a technician
· Computer literacy required
· Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
· Employee must be able to attain qualifications and licenses required by station management (these can include but not be limited to FDNY certificates of Fitness, USCG tanker man, etc.)
· Familiarity with the principles of power plant systems, design of mechanical systems and controls, valves, pumps, mechanical components, gas turbines and generators.
· Familiarity with main power plant components and systems including motors, rotating plant items, electrical auxiliaries, cabling systems, switchgear, protection systems, insulation and cooling systems, high and low voltage transformers, high and low voltage switchgear, transmission interconnection equipment, bus bar installations, earthing arrangements
· Familiarity with the typical failure modes of the normal power plant materials, systems and plant component items and methods of non-destructive test used on generators, transformers, cables, insulation systems and major plant items
· Familiarity with the principles of power plant auxiliary power distribution systems, properties of electrical materials, test procedures and precautions to be taken to ensure safety.
· Knowledge of industrial instrumentation, water treatment systems as well as conduit installation practices.
· Familiarity with the use of electrical and electronic test equipment.
· Knowledge of Distributed Control Systems and Programmable Logic Controls.
Discipline Areas
· Power plant environment. Work environment includes working out of doors, working around a maritime environment, working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating unit work locations. Work in all temperatures and climate conditions. Some temperatures can be extreme.
· Requires operation of a motor vehicle, valid Driver’s License required.
· Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, high noise areas and elevations up to 100 feet.
· Willingness and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
· Work in confined spaces, some requiring the use of respirators and other protective equipment.
· Performance of duties requires response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week.
· Emergency situations will require the use of respirator and climbing of stairs to reach safety shelters.
· Established facial hair in the sealing area of a respirator is not permitted
· Contact lenses are not permitted except for specific medical reasons.
· OSHA approved footwear is required
