Orion Carports based in Commerce, Los Angeles, CA, is a premium solar carport engineering and construction firm in Southern California with projects in CA and neighboring states.
We are looking for a recent engineering graduate for the position of Jr. Engineer, for solar carport construction.
Candidate should be eager to learn the full cycle of sales, quoting, contract writing, managing the sale from engineering design through construction and inspection signoff.
We are seeking an enthusiastic learner, with excellent verbal (phone and presentation) and written communication skills, eager to work in the high demand area of commercial solar carport systems, especially with the need to have EV charging facilities for electric cars in the near future.
Training and guidance will be provided as needed.
Salary will be competitive based on experience.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize AutoCAD and Microsoft Suite to create carport layouts to optimize solar production from parking footprints.
- Understand the parameters governing the quotes for carports.
- Assist with installation cycle - getting vendor quote, creating schedules.
- Required to be on site for carport construction (Site meetings, drilling, carport installation, inspections)
- (Travel can vary from 20-50% depending on projects in pipeline. Per diem payment and travel expense reimbursements will be provided.)
Jr. Engineer will work under and assist the Engineering Manager/Administrator with:
- Estimating costs of Construction (Labor, materials, etc) for quoting and bidding projects
- Coordinating schedules with clients, subcontractors and engineers (including material delivery, site visits, construction schedule).
- Reading and analyzing structural plans and soil reports
- Track progress and monitor multiple projects at the same time
- Generate bill of materials or take offs for carport material.
- Maintain a daily log of job site operations, reporting to management summary of work with photos.
- Reach out to vendors and get quotes for on site work.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical/Structural/Civil Engineering is preferred. While this is NOT an electrical position, basic knowledge of electricity & magnetism as well as Solar Energy as taught in standard college courses is needed..
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Respectful and positive attitude with team player mentality
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, ppt, teams)
- Interest in solar or construction industry is desirable
- Valid CA Drivers License
- Personal Vehicle
