Job Title: Full-Time Prior Authorization Specialist

Position Summary:
The purpose of this position is to ensure that all authorizations are completed and followed up on within a timely manner. It is the responsibility of this role to obtain authorization through fax or phone, depending on the payer, and to document obtained authorization number within Empower. It is also the responsibility of this position to identify when an authorization cannot be obtained and alert this information to the scheduling specialist in a timely manner.
Position Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work events daily from Empower
- Prioritize stat orders to be worked immediately
- Review events hourly to identify incoming stat orders
- Complete the payer authorization form
- Fax form to payer through outlook
- Document the account within Empower
- Set event for the appropriate follow-up time frame
- Obtain any documentation needed to finalize authorization from physician or sales rep
- Communicate with scheduling to make patient contact if authorization process is longer than 48 hours
- Communicate with scheduling once authorization has been obtained or in the event that authorization cannot be obtained
- Set all appropriate events and alerts as outlined within the authorization policy & procedure document
- Respond to emails and voicemail within 24 hours
- Attend and participate in department meetings
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):
- Two years of reception experience (or equivalent customer related ability)
- Proficient in general computer programs.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills
- Excellent customer relationship skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities
