We are seeking a highly skilled SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER / PROJECT MANAGER to lead unique fabrication projects in our ASME Code Certified, heavy metal job shop. We fabricate one-of-a-kind or short run projects that vary in size, complexity and value. The successful candidate will enjoy project management and problem solving fabrication challenges. Technical expertise in preparing technical proposals, designing components, developing project plans and leading cost-effective execution strategies as the primary customer contact from proposal to ship is key. The ability to balance multiple and conflicting priorities to meet deadlines is required. Because our customers depend on our design-for-fabrication expertise for never-been-built-before components, our unique and varied products offer a wide variety of engineering experiences. This is a full-time, on-site position supporting our on-site fabrication shop.
We’ve been supporting a prestigious customer base including national labs (Argonne, Fermi, more), cutting edge R&D and science programs (NASA and Universities), and technology-based customers by building creative, next-generation components for particle accelerator, vacuum, pressure and cryogenic technologies for 55 YEARS!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Scope:Contribute to the Company’s strategic direction by making significant contributions to high level unique, short run projects. Facilitate effective execution of jobs through the shop from the development of competitive quotes through final shipping.
1. Project Management of projects raining in value from $1k to $2mm
a. Lead Engineer on unique projects from proposal to ship
b. Partner with customer in pre-contract, quote and contract phase to discover and achieve end-user objectives.
c. Collaborate with operations team to develop and implement innovative & optimized fabrication solutions that meet customer, budget and schedule objectives while minimizing risks typical of prototype and low volume production of complex products.
d. Execute projects applying knowledge of manufacturing processes and techniques (forming, machining, welding, and inspection/testing) to work with manufacturing and engineering teams.
e. Prepare and maintain documentation including bill of materials, travelers, manufacturing routings and updated drawings.
2. Perform design engineering/engineering analysis:
a. Perform pressure vessel, pressure relief and thermal calculations as required. Research production methods. Oversee preparation of 3-D models and drawings.
b. Apply ASME Code Section VIII, B31.3 Piping Code, Vacuum Vessels and Process Vessels standard practices when required.
3. Participate in technical sales initiatives by developing cost estimates and proposals for RFQs.
4. Participate in developing and implementing continuous improvement strategies.
TechnicalQualifications
· BSME or relevant engineering or physics degree. Advanced degree a plus.
· Minimum 10+ years as a mechanical/cryogenic/manufacturing/design engineer and/or project manager in a relevant manufacturing environment.
· Knowledge of manufacturing processes (forming, machining, welding and inspection/testing) used in the manufacture of fabricated metal parts.
· Familiarity with Cryogenic, vacuum and/or pressure equipment fabrication a plus.
· Strong problem solving and analytic skills.
· Experience with ASME Code Section VIII, B31.3 Piping Code, Vacuum Vessels and Process Vessels standard practices a plus.
· Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and understand GD&T.
· Desire to interface with peers from our customers to our on-site shop.
· Ability to streamline multiple and/or conflicting priorities in a detail-oriented manner.
· Competent in use of Autocad Inventor, Made2Manage or other ERP system, MS Office and Microsoft Project.
