Under the direction of the Healthcare Administrator, the Director of staff Development will be responsible for orientation and job training of all team members at PVE in Laurel Creek including required orientation topics to be completed before they begin work in their department per Paradise Valley Estates policy, procedures, and law. Utilizes orientation checklists, training checklists and on-the-job orientation, and verifies the skills and competency of team members on at least an annual basis. Establishes an annual calendar that includes all Paradise Valley Estates required and federal and state mandated in-services/certification training, and communicates in-service/training in advance. Utilizes lesson plans with measurable objectives for any instructor led educational offerings. Establishes/maintains a resource center and library training for the needs of the campus. Provides at least a quarterly report to the Quality Meeting.
Job Responsibilities Include:
- Assists the Managers/Directors in preparing performance evaluations, related to education & training needs as requested.
- Monitors the professional nurses licensing status to ensure that they remain current. Inform nurses at least 30 days in advance of their license expiration date.
- 16 hours (2 days) a week, monitors staff performance at LCHC and gives informal daily feedback and structured weekly feedback. Observes resident care and corrects staff when necessary, educating on proper procedures.
- In collaboration with the Appropriate Director/Manager and Human Resources, confronts and counsels employees when staff needs to make changes in behavior or performance and documents; follows-up to assure desired change occurs.
- Listens/serves as a resource and advocate for work problems, equipment, and supply needs and employee complaints; listens in a caring manner and directs staff to resources, such as, Human Resources. Encourages staff; asks and invites involvement and feedback from employees.
- Provides recognition to employees who perform their duties correctly; encourages others to improve performance. Encourages employees to take on new challenges. Asks employees to help formulate solutions to problems in the work place.
- Interprets the department's policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate of Nursing preferred. Must hold a current valid RN license to practice nursing in the State of California, or show proof of application for such.
- Director of Staff Development Certification, two years of nursing experience and one year of direct patient care in a nursing facility.
- One (1) year additional education or work experience in nursing service supervision or administration and education or experience in rehabilitative or geriatric nursing.
- Three (3) years minimum, five years preferred as a registered nurse in the state of California.
- Must have knowledge of all details of nursing care to geriatric residents and previous experience in a convalescent home or general hospital with supervisory or charge nurse abilities.
- Must hold American Heart Association CPR certification.
