JOB TITLE: LVN Instructor, Clinical and/or Didactic faculty

REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing
The primary function of the LVN Instructor is to plan, teach, direct and supervise all student learning experiences in the classroom, skills lab, and clinical facilities, following the curriculum of the school as approved by the California State Board of Nursing.

Duties and Responsibilities:
· Instruct students and develop coursework for the assigned classes per the curriculum, as assigned by, and under the direct supervision of the DON (Director of Nursing).
· Make continuous efforts to improve quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing different and innovative methodologies / techniques in teaching.
· Assist with reviewing and revising syllabi, instructional materials, and instructional guidelines.
· Assist with strategic planning and assessment of instructional initiatives to ensure quality of program.
· Regularly evaluate students to measure their progress in achieving curriculum and course objectives and inform them in a timely manner of their progress.
· Is instrumental in identifying individual and collective learning needs of assigned students, being cognizant of the physical, mental and emotional status of the learners.
· Maintain student records of attendance, grades, and skills check-off forms and assist with program data collection.
· Teach lectures and clinical rotations (clinical rotations can be days, and/or evenings, on week days and/or weekends).
· Prepare, administer, and grade, written and practical examinations during course of study.
· Provide access to students for ongoing communication through scheduling of office hours, electronic communication and other appropriate methods.
· Discuss with students their concerns and/or problems directly or indirectly related to learning experience.
· Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with DON (Director of Nursing) or her designee.
· Participate in professional development; maintain CE hours to ensure renewed licensure and stay current with college updates.
· Is responsible to assist the student to develop an understanding of values, attitudes, and ideals appropriate to the health care profession.
· Commitment to teaching and working with a multicultural and multigenerational student body.
· Act as liaison between clinical facilities, community partners and the college
Qualifications:
· Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse with current licensure in California
· Able to meet the faculty requirements set by California's Board of Vocational Nursing
· At least 2 years of work experience within the last 5 years as a licensed RN or LVN
· Current immunizations and Basic Life Support Certification
· Experience which demonstrates: Current knowledge of nursing practice; ability to mentor students in classroom, lab and clinical settings.
· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Teaching experience preferred
· Education Requirements:
o Baccalaureate degree
OR
o Valid Teaching Credential
OR
o Minimum of one-year Full-time teaching experience in a state-approved RN or LVN school within the last five years
OR
o Associate degree with 6 years of experience as a licensed RN or LVN
