POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to Corporate Logistics, the Senior Manager of Logistics Freight Expense & Claims Management is responsible for two critical functions for Sysco Merchandising and Supply Chain Services: (i) inbound freight expense audit & payment, and (ii) inbound freight cargo loss claims. These functions are required for all North American inbound shipments managed by Corporate Logistics and executed via a vast network of 3rd party intermediaries (i.e. transportation carriers). This position resides within Corporate Logistics, which is part of Sysco Merchandising and Supply Chain Services, has a contributory service and financial impact to Sysco Corp and all Sysco operating company entities. The individually will be tasked to upgrade the skill set, effectiveness and efficiency within the department along with building awareness and compliance programs across the organization through people development, process improvement and technology introduction/implementation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Owns the end-to-end functional process for inbound freight expense audit and payment management with the primary objective to achieve both accurate and high 1st time yield rate on invoice matching. Will ensure process and data compliance via our TMS (Transportation Management System) and leverage such systems to support carrier development, transportation planning, and market logistics management.

Owns the end-to-end functional process of inbound freight claims generated due to OS&D (Overages, Shortages, and Damages) product losses. Ensures timely research, filing and collection of logistics and/or supplier claims. With the primary objective to mitigate claim liability and/or financial loss to our Operating Companies – which includes a focus toward claim prevention - will ensure end-to-end process compliance amongst all stakeholders.

Fosters collaboration and is expected to have direct involvement and influence amongst internal and external stakeholders, which includes, but not limited to, Sysco Corp Logistics (Systems & Services, Planning, Carrier Development, and Market Logistics), QA, Legal, Accounts Payables, Finance, Operating Companies, and 3rd party intermediaries (e.g., Carriers). Accountable for financial results that are impacted by the management of freight expense audit/payment and cargo claims. Is responsible for the processes overseeing the audit, reconciliation, approval, and payment processing of freight expense and claims and to do so within agreed terms, insurance, and/or other contractual obligations. Provides weekly and period reporting to measure effectiveness and compliance.

Lead, manage, and develop a dedicated team of approximately eight (8) full-time professional associates. Sets individual and team performance metrics, evaluates productivity, and helps associates create long-term career plans within the organization by leveraging the Sysco GROW and CMP processes.

Thrives to be the subject matter expert on freight expense management and cargo claims. With a constant focus toward CI (continuous improvement), will ensure standards and controls are in place and aligned with industry best practices and associated regulatory and/or compliance requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, creating and implementing corporate training materials and programs, stakeholder performance scorecards, facilitation of performance reviews, leading & implementing strategic initiatives, etc. to enable identification and appropriate CI initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Qualifications:

Education and / or Experience:

Bachelor's degree required – Preference for international business, supply chain management, or accounting & finance.

Master's degree highly desirable.

Minimum 5-7 years' experience in business or operations management, accounts payable, finance, or equivalent.

Solid understanding of the Carmack Amendment, Code of Federal Regulations (specifically CFR Title 49 Transportation), Federal & International Hazardous Material Regulations, and Food Safety Modernization Act is highly desirable.

Experience in contract negotiation, language, and compliance is highly desirable.
Professional Skills:
-
Intermediate to Expert level in MS Office Suite (specifically Word, Excel, Project, and Visio).
-
Proficiency in modern ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems, such as SAP or JDE, as well as TMS (Transportation Management Systems) highly desirable.

Related industry and/or process management certifications from APICS, PMI, ASQ, and/or CSCMP are highly desirable.

Strong analytical skills required with a thorough understanding of accounting and finance. 2 years' experience in project management or structured problem solving methodologies with proven results is highly desirable.
