GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for tool management program. Investigate, plan and troubleshoot machine tool layouts. Develop and document standards for tooling. Works in accordance with general business standards and established company policy and precedent. Has the opportunity to establish programs and/or methodologies within scope of work. Under the direction of the Engineering Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess knowledge of blueprints, gaging and equipment specific to the job. General educational background with both written and verbal communication skills typically acquired through completion of high school. Experience and mechanical knowledge of machinery required. Previous experience and knowledge of the production process is required. Prior experience designing and tooling parts in a manufacturing environment. Strong math and problem-solving skills.
DUTIES:
- Communicate with vendors and suppliers as needed to provide the best value and service to Rima
- Research and advise for purchase items for automating, improving and repairing our processes
- Train personnel in the basic principles of set up time reduction
- Track and report project performance
- Collaborate with engineering production teams to define tooling requirements and goals
- Design and tool machines to produce parts to blueprint requirements
- Test tooling in production to ensure quality requirements and production rates are met
- Assist with the improvement and refinement of manufacturing processes and tooling strategies
- Work with QC, engineering, and other departments to communicate challenges and requirements
- Establish and maintain tool management program
- Provide and maintain CAD drawings for all tooling
- Review and approve Rima redrawn prints for tooling, process layouts and parts
- Follow Management Systems procedures and work instructions
- Participate in SysteManagement meetings on a periodic basis
- Communicate with managers, supervisors, set up personnel, machine operators and other personnel as needed
- Observe blueprint for all dimensions and requirements to assure maximum quality and production
- Supervise the restock of tooling
- Supervise the pulling of set-up tooling, according to the Set-Up Layout
- Participate in the continuous improvement, research and recommendations for all operational processes
- Assist in maintaining safe practices for all employees
- Maintain a clean, safe and efficient work environment by following the 5S principles
- Complete all other specially assigned tasks or projects
RESPONSIBILITY, ACCOUNTABILITY AND AUTHORITY:
- Support production of profitable product
- Responsible for maintaining tooling inventories using Tool Management software and QAD database
- Responsible for tool management program
- Responsible to requisition replacement tools
- Responsible to assist with set up time reduction activities
- Responsible for supporting productivity efforts
- Responsible for communicating with Rima personnel as needed to assure accuracy and proficiency as Rima’s Senior Tooling Engineer
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Employee will be exposed to the noise, fumes and temperature extremes typically found in a light manufacturing environment. Risk of injury from being in close proximity of operating machinery is possible, but unlikely if proper safety precautions are followed. Lifting requirements for this position dictate that the employee must be physically capable of lifting a minimum of 40# on a repetitive basis and a maximum of 80# on an occasional basis.
