This position will assist residents with medication administration. The Medication Technician ensures that all documentation, charting and reporting has been done correctly and in a timely manner, demonstrates strong ethical and safety practices, and works closely with other care staff on resident updates and or changes in status.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Maintains accurate and detailed reports and records. Documents and removes medication which has expired or been discontinued from cart as required in accordance with established procedure.

Review medication sheets for completeness and accuracy.

Complies with all medication management policies and procedures. Ensures medication records are accurate for shift and keys are accounted for at all times.

Perform housekeeping duties such as making occupied and unoccupied beds and clean up after any unusual incontinence or injury as it occurs.

Record resident’s medical information and vital signs. Observe changes and consult with the nurse, caregivers and physician, monitoring closely for adverse side effects. Monitors and documents all aspects of self-administering by residents.

Monitor, record and report symptoms and changes in resident’s conditions.

Reminds and assists residents to take medication through verbal cues, suggestion, prompting and/or gesturing.

Observes residents and verifies medication is ingested or applied as directed. Documents any instance if not ingested or applied, noting reason for refusal.

Order and/or reorder medications, supplies and equipment as necessary in accordance with established policy. Partner with pharmacy and families to ensure all medications are on hand.

Participate in formal and informal resident activities aimed at promoting positive health practices and understanding of the individual’s medical issues.

Ensure that work areas (medicine and treatment cart, medication room, etc.) are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. Adhere to hand-washing policy for medication passing, universal precautions and infection control.

Assist in filling out transfer forms, charting and performing documentation duties as required in accordance with community policy and procedure.

Participate in state surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested.

Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate resident care plans.

Perform other duties as assigned.

High School diploma and/or equivalent.
-
Have at least one (1) year verified experience as a Medication Technician in an Assisted Living community.

AZ State Caregiver Certification through Direct Care.

Current CPR/First Aid Certification.

AZ DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Current Food Handlers Card.

Must be able to communicate articulately and comprehend written and verbal communications in English.

Able to lift a minimum of 25 to 75 pounds.

Must be able to function in a high stress work environment.
