Job Summary:
X-ray technician is responsible for obtaining X-ray images of patients via radiographic imaging procedures, explaining X-ray procedures to patients, and ensuring that patients are exposed to limited amounts of radiation.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Taking x-ray images of patients and making a copy (film) of their skeletal structure for diagnosis and treatment purposes
· Providing a calm environment, while explaining how the processes of the procedure
· Providing patient(s) with protective materials to avoid over-exposure to radiation,
· Transmission of x-ray films to the Radiologist in a timely fashion
· Ensuring that repairs and replacement of equipment are completed in a timely fashion
· Daily filing of copies of X-rays.
- Knowledge of radiologic science, anatomy and complex medical terminology related to X-rays
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Strong oral communication skills to provide clear instructions to patients during testing
· Critical thinking skills to interpret orders
· Attentive to detail to set equipment properly and maintain accurate records
· Observational skills to spot problems with images and ensure that patients remain correctly positioned
· Computer skills to use picture archiving and communications systems and medical records software
· Must display a high level of flexibility in the process of carrying out assigned duties. This may entail filling in for other colleagues in the face of tight schedules
· Must be willing and able to work as part of a team.
· Must be able to analyze complex situations within a limited timeframe
· Must have a clear understanding of how to handle and operate medical imaging equipment
Education and Experience:
§ A bachelor’s degree in radiologic technology
§ A minimum of 2 years working experience in a healthcare facility as an x-ray or radiology technician
§ Must have the required medical licenses to operate in Georgia
