Counselor needed in ALABAMA with either AL Board of Examiners in Counseling, OR AL State Board of Social Work Examiners, OR National BCBA certification.
Develop and maintain ongoing social work support and/or educational or social-emotional skill groups with students
Consult with administrators, teachers, staff and district office personnel on general and specific situations involving concerns about students
Respond to school referrals under the direction of administrators or their designees
Develop and maintain ongoing parent education groups; maintain a case load of “at-risk” students; conduct home visits/home studies
Serve as a school liaison for community services/resources available to students and their families

Develop and implement appropriate social work student support plans to help students develop appropriate social and academic functioning
Provide counseling services and interventions with individuals and small groups
Prevention services: Implements Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies in school-wide/classroom/small group settings
Identify behavioral needs of students through assessment, intervention and planning
Assists in crisis intervention and conflict resolution for students, staff and families; utilize de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
Facilitates a link between home, school, and community resources
Conduct home visits and provide case management to support families and facilitate parent and school collaboration
Provides consultation, makes recommendations, gives appropriate advice and/or facilitates decisions regarding student needs
Provides academic and behavioral interventions in a collaborative setting
Develop and deliver staff training to support equal access for all students
Uses evidence based research data to support the development or improvement of existing programs and utilization of resources
Build positive understanding of cultural diversity while establishing inclusive relationships to students, families, staff and members of the community
Give voice to the needs of underrepresented populations
Continually utilize time management skills, documentation and communication skills
Maintain Professional NASW Code of Ethics
Knowledgeable about Multi-tiered system of support (MTSS); Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS); Special Education (IDEA) and 504
Implements processes, programs and procedures in the School Social Worker role
Knowledgeable about human behavior, psychological research, assessments, methods and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
Compose and produce reports, documents and related materials
Speak and write clearly, concisely and effectively in English; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally or in writing
Identify visual or aural information, such as facial expressions, body language, physical surroundings, noises, etc… to accurately identify potential areas of concern or inappropriate activity
