Perform mechanical and visual inspection at all levels of parts and raw materials (as determined by the Engineering and Materials Department) to ensure quality standards are met. Inclusive of Receiving, In-Process, Outside Process and Final Inspections and / or Audits.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Operate Coordinate Measuring Machine.
· Verify quality of parts related to all inspection / audit levels.
· Review customer supplied drawings and specifications to determine any critical dimensions.
· Complete any documentation required for conformance to customer specifications and / or internal procedures.
· Communicate non-conformances to respective managers or shift supervisors, determine necessity for MRB and obtain signatures as required for completion of Nonconformance Reports.
· Responsibility of inspecting product and first articles; Miscalculations could result in substantial loss due to scrapped parts, which are unable to be salvaged or reworked and defective parts being shipped to the customer.
· Responsibility of performing First Piece inspections at any operation within the manufacturing facility as required.
· Cross-train on an as needed basis.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
· Associates Degree; five or more years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Mathematical ability normally acquired through high school education or equivalent required.
· Communication, writing, and reading ability normally acquired through high school education to be placed in successful usage to all levels of management required.
· Physical ability to perform normal activities common to the inspection trade, including lifting up to 30 lbs., and the ability to hold and measure parts required.
· Ability to use judgment to obtain accurate and precise measurements for determining acceptance and rejection based upon use of drawings, procedures, specifications, and appearance required.
· Overall ability to be accurate and expedient, thus avoiding substantial losses of material, labor, defective parts or late shipments being shipped to the customer required.
· Ability to clean and use care in the day to day usage and cleaning of inspection tools required. Neglect could result in inaccurate inspection or parts and damage or loss of tools.
· The ideal candidate would be precise, diplomatic, and able to communicate effectively under high stress conditions.
· Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
CRITICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Ability to understand and operate a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and Fabrivision Flat pattern scanner required.
· Ability to program CMM preferred.
· Knowledge and understanding of Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning at an advanced level required.
· Ability to use normal inspection instruments related to metal fabrication process such as calipers, gauges, rulers, scales and related hand tools required.
· Ability to use basic software applications, such as MS Office, and to learn MieTrak, and various types of Quality Management software required.
· Knowledge of inspection techniques as acquired through minimal experience in production manufacturing required.
· Ability to understand or learn basic Statistical Process Control (SPC) inclusive of capability studies, attribute chartings, and variable chartings required.
· Ability to work with limited supervision.
· Excellent problem solving abilities.
· Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude with all employees.
