This is a growing probate, litigation and family law group focused on serving California individuals and businesses. The Intake Attorney will support various firm initiatives related to new business intake and case evaluations. The Intake Attorney will focus primarily on collaborating with our intake team to connect with potential clients to evaluate the firm’s ability to represent the client. Executing processes related to new client review, eligibility identification, and evaluation of potential retainer.
Responsibilities:
Process the intake of prospective new clients on behalf of sponsoring Firm attorneys including, but not limited to, speaking with potential clients, performing case evaluations, assisting intake specialists in answering legal questions and identifying any conflicts of interest, assist in drafting engagement letters and any necessary waivers.
Ensure the collection and maintenance of accurate records related to intake of new clients, including the firm’s conflicts records, intake forms, engagement letters, and outside counsel guidelines.
Liaise with internal firm stakeholders as necessary to mitigate potential risks associated with the intake of new business and client-tendered outside counsel guidelines.
Utilize internal and external research tools to identify potential risks associated with intake of new clients.
Act as a resource and subject matter expert for the Department as well as firm attorneys and assistants on conflict of interest and all matters related to the intake of new clients, new matters, lateral conflict clearance, and the like.
Work closely with the Firm’s ethics officer to ensure best practices are applied when engagement letters are developed and implemented; ensure the terms of engagement letters are adhered to.
Maintain a working knowledge of firm trends and developments as they impact the Department and its processes to better aide in engaging new clients
Assume additional responsibilities as requested at the direction of Client Intake Manager or the Firm’s ethics officer.
Desired Qualifications:
- Must be a licensed California attorney and in good standing with the CA Bar Association
- Excellent academic credentials.
- Strong work ethic and reliability are a must.
- Exemplary client service skills with prompt response levels at all times.
- Desire to make court appearances, argue motions, and participate in hearings
- 5+ years of experience as a licensed attorney.
- Detail-oriented with strong drafting and negotiating skills and the ability to communicate legal subject matter to non-attorneys.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, business judgment and strategic legal thinking.
- Ability to manage workflow independently to meet firm deadlines while achieving business and risk management objectives.
- Courtroom experience preferred but not a prerequisite.
- Knowledge of the Code of Civil Procedure
- Working knowledge of ethical, legal, and risk management rules and requirements, with a willingness to learn substantive law required.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment, prioritize multiple projects daily, and adjust to shifting priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in using Microsoft 360, Adobe, Excel and CRM.
- Outstanding sense of customer service, with a demonstrated service driven attitude and ability to professionally collaborate with attorneys, staff, and co-workers within the firm.
