Medical Billing Specialist, Indianapolis / Carmel
Position Description:
Multi-physician, multi-location, well established Oculoplastic practice in need of an experienced medical billing specialist for immediate hire at our Indianapolis / Carmel, Indiana location. In this position, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks requiring data analysis and customer service. Daily duties include, but are not limited to, reviewing assigned worklists for claim submissions, appealing denied claims and patient/payer phone calls.
The ideal candidate must possess an in-depth knowledge of billing and insurance policies. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills since communication with patients and various insurance agents is a large part of the job.

Qualifications / Expectations:
- College Degree and/or 3+ years on the job experience in a related healthcare field
- A minimum of 1 years’ experience as a medical biller or related healthcare role
- Strong knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements and systems.
- Proficient, expedient computer skills, including EMR's, portals, Microsoft products, other software, e-mail, scanning, faxing and other. Experience with Nextech MDI and or Athena EMR a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication/customer service skills, in person and on the phone
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, appeals, collections
- Detail oriented with a willingness to work a problem to its successful conclusion
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism
- Must maintain friendly, welcoming attitude while under pressure
- Demonstrates a "how can I help you" attitude, a professional extension of the practice and physician.
- Great telephone etiquette with friendly, helpful and patient demeanor
- Dependable, great attendance record, reliable transportation and "plays well" with other co-workers
- Must speak, read and write English fluently
- Maintaining patient confidentiality as required by HIPAA
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment as needed
- Familiarity with CPT and ICD -10 coding
Primary Responsibilities and Duties –
- Process insurance claims through a Practice Management system.
- Ensure patient information is accurate and complete
- Collect patient balances and some insurance payments
- Investigate and appeal denied claims
- Research and resolve patient billing problems
- Monitor and resolve financial discrepancies
- Work with patients to develop self-pay arrangements and payment plans
- Assist with obtaining referrals and pre-authorizations
- Assist with physician credentialing
- Assist with charge posting and billing claims
- Other administrative responsibilities as needed
