Description
Under general supervision of the Exec. Director of Safety & Emergency Management, the Env. Safety Coordinator will spend a majority of his or her time to conduct environmental rounds at all campus locations and follow-up to close identified issues, with department leaders and engineering. The remainder of the time will be devoted to assist with daily safety & emergency management program activities including safety data sheet site maintenance; meeting minutes & agendas; conducting rounds at extended campus locations and to work within established goals of the program. Will assist with the development and facilitation of audits/risk assessments, as needed. Will perform hazard assessments and conduct building inspections, as directed. Will conduct/assist with drills and develop databases to manage and interpret information for reporting to leadership.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree Environmental Health and Safety or a related field (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
2 years Environmental safety (Preferred)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Ability to be flexible and adaptable to a changing work environment that requires upgrading of skills on a regular basis as required.
Must have Presentation and training skills, clerical skills and be capable of demonstrating and exhibiting positive customer service skills.
Must have a working knowledge of PC and ability to use routine computer software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, databases) and the internet.
Functional Accountabilities
Communication
- Serve as a liaison with Children’s National departments, external customers and visitors.
- Respond to inquiries for additional information and clarification of policies and procedures.
- Coordinate development of meetings, agendas and minutes as necessary.
- Present in-services and orientations upon request.
- Assist the Director & other team members as needed.
Safety
- Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
- Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation
- Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation; and escalate when indicated
- Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication
- Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co-workers
- Attend carefully to important details - practicing Stop, Think, Act and Review in order to self-check behavior and performance
Safety Related Duties
- Perform Hazard Surveillance Rounds and disseminate reports
- Perform safety and construction audits.
- Disseminate safety-related information to department heads and others as needed.
- Assist department heads and administration to enforce safety codes and regulations.
- Conduct system-wide annual chemical inventory.
- Site administrator for product recall notification system.
Program Development
- Assist with the development of safety programs.
- Develop and maintain databases as needed.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
Drills and Training
- Assist with fire and other emergency/disaster drills.
