Mechanic- Meat Plant
Commercial Meat Company Inc is a family owned and operated business that has been serving the wholesale food processing industry for over 40 years. We are looking for a skilled Mechanic to provide comprehensive repair and maintenance services for food processing equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Mechanic is tasked with ensuring the efficient, safe, and reliable operation of meat and food processing equipment. The Mechanic is required to possess a range of skills in both mechanical and electrical disciplines, with a primary focus on troubleshooting and conducting maintenance for equipment breakdowns. Once troubleshooting tasks are completed, the Mechanic will shift their attention to carrying out preventive maintenance activities as outlined by the System Maintenance Technician. They are expected to systematically repair, adjust, and uphold processing, filling, conveying, and packaging machinery as directed through established maintenance reliability practices, consistent monitoring, repairs, and evaluations of operational efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Maintenance and upkeep of meat processing equipment, product conveying systems, pressurized fluid systems, mixers and vessels, flexible filling and sealing equipment, packaging printing, labeling, and conveying systems, as well as case packers and palletizing equipment.
2. Develop, monitor, and communicate maintenance-related metrics to identify, reduce, and eliminate recurring issues on equipment to enhance system reliability.
3. Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis on significant unplanned breakdowns and recurrent problems.
4. Create and implement Preventive Maintenance Procedures for each piece of equipment.
5. Serve as the expert on the systems and act as a resource for knowledge regarding operation, controls, set-up, and complex maintenance processes.
6. Provide specialized training on equipment operation and maintenance procedures to maintenance and operations associates to ensure compliance with assembly, operating, and safety protocols.
7. Manage the procurement and maintenance of replacement parts inventory for designated equipment.
8. Rebuild and replenish spare parts assemblies for equipment or systems as needed.
Mission Critical Competencies:
Include a strong understanding of electrical systems, particularly single and 3-phase controls, and distribution systems up to 600 Volts AC. The ability to maintain and troubleshoot AC and DC variable speed and servo controls in various systems such as processing, filling, robotics, thermal processing, and packaging systems is essential. Additionally, proficiency in maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying close-tolerance mechanical systems, mechanically timed equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic controlled and powered systems, and components is required.
Other key responsibilities involve managing area assets, equipment maintenance schedules, improvement projects, downtime personnel and resources, and equipment historical data.
Key functional skills and knowledge necessary for success in this role include precision instrumentation repair and calibration, expertise in hydraulic and pneumatic control and powered systems, proficiency in machining with mill and lathe equipment, steel fabrication and repair skills, mechanical maintenance knowledge, welding capabilities (MIG, TIG, and stick), familiarity with thermal processing instruments and controls, proper use of hand and power tools.
Key Experiences
experience in food manufacturing and food safety practices, as well as a thorough understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices.
Minimum requirements:
5+ years’ experience maintaining mechanical systems on complex processes and/or high-speed production equipment.
5+ years’ experience working in a meat processing plant a must.
