Visible Logic, an award-winning branding and marketing firm in Portland, Maine is looking for a driven and talented junior designer. You’ll work with experienced team members who will support you and allow you to learn and do your best work.
We are looking for a versatile designer. Our primary design needs are for social media graphics, photo research, icon design, and printed marketing materials. Additional opportunities may include: logo design, web design, and motion graphics. We do not expect that you’ll be proficient in all of these areas, but your interest in a wide variety of design challenges and different media is appreciated.
We are looking for someone who has a sharp eye for the essentials of good design: typography, hierarchy, layout, visual details, scale and color.
This is a part-time, remote position. We offer flexibility with your schedule, but most work needs to be done during normal business hours.

Description of work
You will be involved in many different types of projects in our studio, we do not expect any candidate to be proficient in all of these different media, but versatility and flexibility is required.
Primary activities
- Creating social media graphics for LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook.
- Creating graphics for blogs or e-newsletters.
- Doing stock photo or illustration research.
- Designing icons.
- Updating text and graphics within WordPress, and other online platforms.
- Creation of marketing materials including brochures, print and digital ads.
Other possible design work
- Designing logo designs.
- Designing websites: creating new sites and enhancing and improving existing sites and landing pages (Note: we work primarily in WordPress, but this is not a development position, we don’t expect you to build the site).
- Creating simple videos or motion graphics to support social media campaigns, blogs or e-newsletters.
- Designing multi-page documents such as catalogs or reports.
- Making infographics and explanatory chart or graphics.
- Creating PowerPoint decks.
Other required work
In addition to design tasks, you will be required to do the following as part of the team:
- Use a project management tool (ClickUp) to receive instructions and details and track tasks.
- Organize your files using Dropbox and Google files.
- Participate in meetings with team members and/or clients, mostly via Zoom but occasionally in person.
- Track your time accurately.
- Communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who:
- Has strong and detailed design skills and has the ability to create compelling, balanced, polished designs.
- Has the typography skills to typeset precisely in print, on the web or within a logo.
- Is interested in receiving direction from other team members and can also work independently.
- Can work in a variety of styles and develop an appropriate design for multiple clients.
- Has an interest in working on B2B projects that sometimes require immersing yourself in the technical detail or nuance of a very specialized product or industry.
- Can communicate well verbally and in writing to present your design ideas to team members or clients.
- Has 0-4 years experience. Design degree preferred.
Skills:
- Highly proficient in Illustrator, PhotoShop, and InDesign following best practices for file setup.
- Familiarity with online platforms like WordPress, MailChimp and Canva.
- Experience with PowerPoint. (Ugh, but we have to create presentation decks sometimes!)
- Experience with Adobe XD and video editing tools like Premiere is ideal but not required.
More details
- This is a part-time, employee (not contractor) position. 10-15 hours / week to start, with a chance of this expanding if there is a good fit.
- Pay will be based on skill and experience, anticipated $25-40/hour.
- Paid holidays and PTO based on schedule.
- We are a remote-first business and work will primarily be completed on your own.
- Exact schedule will be mutually determined but must fall within Monday-Friday 9-5 Eastern.
- Approximately every three months, you will attend in-person meetings in Portland, Maine. Travel and accommodations will be covered.
