Qualifications:
· Employee must have the ability and/or the willingness to be trained to operate the church’s maintenance equipment such as the lawn mower, floor buffer, etc.
· Employee should be observant and self-directed in performing the duties of this position.
· Employee is required to pass a background check every three years for this position.
Oversight:
· Primary supervision is by the Head of Staff with ultimate oversight by the Session via the Personnel Committee.
· The Chair of Building and Grounds Committee will serve as a liaison between the Custodian/Groundskeeper and the Personnel Committee.
· An annual review will be conducted by the Head of Staff and the Chair of the Building and Grounds Committee, as representatives of the Personnel Committee.
Interior Custodial Duties:
· Vacuum all carpeting in Sanctuary, staff offices, and nursery
· Dust all surfaces, including window ledges, in Sanctuary, offices, classrooms, and hallways that are within normal reach
· Keep the glass on communion table clean.
· Dust interior surface of stained glass windows in sanctuary within normal reach
· Dust and/or polish any metal or wood ornaments within the sanctuary within normal reach.
· Wash the interior and exterior surfaces of the clear windows adjacent to the sanctuary within normal reach.
· Keep countertops, sinks and the surfaces of the appliances in the kitchen clean. While the interior of the oven may need to be wiped periodically, the custodian is not required to scrub the interior of the oven. Any messes inside the oven should be reported to the Head of Staff or to the Chair of Building and Grounds if the Head of Staff is unavailable
· Maintain cleanliness of all three (3) restrooms, including toilets, counters, sinks, paper towel dispensers, mirrors, changing tables and infant seat in women’s restroom. Check paper towel and soap dispensers and refill as necessary.
· Maintain cleanliness of countertops and sink in the music/choir room.
· Empty all trash containers and make sure trash bags are at required location for weekly pick-up
· Mop (wet or dry) the vinyl floors in sanctuary, hallways, classrooms, all bathrooms, kitchen, and Fellowship Hall on a weekly basis or as required to maintain cleanliness.
· Buff the floors in hallways, classrooms, Fellowship Hall and kitchen on a weekly basis or as required to maintain a shiny appearance.
· Maintain the cleanliness of Fellowship Hall including floor, walls, window ledges, pianos, microphone cabinet, T.V. and VCR/DVD boxes, etc. Keep clutter out of rear of Fellowship Hall as much as possible.
· Maintain the cleanliness of interior and exterior surfaces of all windows and doors within normal reach.
· Check furnace filters and replace at least six (6) times per year or more if needed and record the dates of the filter changes on the maintenance charts located on each furnace.
Interior Custodial Duties – Continued:
· Replace any burned-out light bulbs throughout the building, including exit signs.
· Check batteries in emergency lights and thermostats and replace as needed.
· Keep entry mats swept and clean. Turn mats over weekly to clean underneath and check for water accumulation.
· Water the inside plants.
· Set up or take down chairs and tables as needed for activities.
· Make minor repairs per instructions from the Head of Staff or the Chair of Building and Grounds Committee.
· Assist with other duties as requested by the Head of Staff or the Chair of Building and Grounds Committee.
· Attend weekly Staff Meetings
Exterior Groundskeeper Duties:
· Maintain the lawn and landscaping with mowing, weed-eating, weed removal, monthly weed control (spraying), trimming, sweeping, pick up trash in yard, etc. as needed
· Sweep sidewalks as needed
· Remove snow from sidewalks and spread ice melt as needed.
· Keep courtyard swept and free of weeds.
· Maintain tractor/mower – oil and gasoline – and consult with the Building and Grounds Committee regarding other maintenance or repairs.
Hours of Work:
· The Custodian/Groundskeeper shall be employed for twenty-two (22) hours per week.
· Although hours may be flexible, some regular daytime hours will be required.
· Coverage during or after church events may be requested, weather related coverage requirements or other unplanned coverage may be needed.
· Should requested coverage require overtime, prior approval from the Head of Staff or Building and Grounds Committee Chair is required.
PTO benefits will begin upon first service anniversary.
