**Independent Living Advocate**
**Overview:**
We are seeking a dedicated and self driven Independent Living Advocate to join our team. As an Independent Living Advocate, you will play a crucial role in empowering individuals with disabilities to live independently and access the services they deserve. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others.
**Responsibilities:**
- Maintain detailed case files, consumer database, reports, and records accurately.
- Provide advocacy and independent living skills training to individuals with disabilities to help them secure necessary services and rights.
- Assist individuals in representing their needs to service providers, community organizations, and employers.
- Support children and adults in achieving appropriate inclusion in academic settings and community activities.
- Deliver prevocational, vocational, and independent living skills training as outlined in the Independent Living Plan.
- Conduct diversity and training sessions for employers, community leaders, service groups, and other stakeholders to promote community inclusion for individuals with disabilities.
- Respond to Information and Referral requests regarding our organization's mission, programs, and services.
**Requirements:**
- Commitment to the philosophy of self-determination for all individuals, including those with disabilities.
- Knowledge of the Independent Living Movement Philosophy and local laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in assistive technology and accessibility standards for procuring necessary equipment and adaptations.
- Strong oral, written, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities in areas such as childcare, home community care, behavior management, autism support, American Sign Language (ASL), Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), medication administration, data collection, special education, and effective communication. Preferred but not required.
-Ability to work independently and is self driven and motivated. Able to multitask and take initative. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly. Ability to work in a fast paced enviornment and in both team and individual settings. Reports to the Program Director.
