The Barren River District Health Department serves the residents and visitors of Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Simpson, and Warren counties of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Barren River District Health Department has an opening for a full-time Network Systems Specialist Grade 17 to work in the IT Department, based in Bowling Green, but will serve all eight counties in our service area (Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Simpson and Warren).
Duties:
- Developing, testing, recommending, installing, configuring, monitoring and maintaining the local area network infrastructure
- Installing and maintaining hardware and software
- Performing complex system generations, networking device configuration generations, work station set-ups and coordinating assignment of node or network address definitions
- Assisting with the coordination of diagnostics and problem resolution with staff; assisting with training and technical assistance on software and hardware
- Assisting management in developing special applications, reports and presentations; assisting in utilizing the statewide computerized network
- Hooking up and disconnecting computers and peripherals such as monitors, keyboards, printers, scanners, LCR projectors, etc.
- Working with CDP’s Hub Site
- Providing technical assistance and troubleshooting for PC’s
- Assisting staff in utilizing and installing various software programs
- Assisting Information Systems Manager prepare cost analysis for equipment needs
- Assisting the Information Systems Manager with the acquisition of software and using software to develop complex applications
- Assisting in maintaining an inventory system, including current location of active and inactive equipment
- Attending local/state meetings and training sessions
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- The minimum requirements are a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of professional systems support experience.
- An Associate Degree in IT, Network Technology or Programming and two (2) years of experience providing technical assistance related to network equipment or software may substitute for the education requirement.
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science will substitute for one year of the experience requirement.
- Related technical or vocational training/experience will substitute for the educational degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

The minimum hourly wage is $20.30. Employees are under probationary period for 6 months. Once the probationary period is completed, the employee's salary will increase 5%. Annually, employees receive a board approved raise.
Applicants must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Travel will be required to other counties as needed after orientation and training is complete.
