POSITION SUMMARY
The Program Manager (PgM), Technical Communities of Interest is a key part of SAME’s Industry-Government Engagement (IGE) team and is responsible for contributing to and managing a national strategy for the engagement of volunteer leadership, members, strategic and partner agencies to address issues confronting the Architect / Engineer / Construction (A/E/C) community.
Critical to facilitating Industry-Government Engagement are the Society of American Military Engineer’s (SAME) Technical Communities of Interest (COIs). COIs serve two purposes: as communities of practice where professionals of like background exchange ideas, but more important, COIs are solution factories providing expertise and a collaborative environment to address issues. SAME has numerous ongoing IGE projects or engagements addressing various issues which the PgM will be assigned to oversee and support in conjunction with assigned COIs. PgMs will be assigned one or more of the following Technical COIs:
- Architectural Practice
- Construction
- Energy & Sustainability
- Environment
- Facility Asset Management
- Joint Engineer Contingency Operations
- Resilience
- Health Engineering Task Force
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Champion assigned COIs with a strong understanding and grasp of the COI’s technical interests and concepts.
- Provide programmatic support to COI-related meetings, webinars, and training.
- Deploy a cohesive strategy fostering industry and government engagement for the relevant communities of interest.
- Coordinate with the COI leadership teams to solicit and recruit COI-related content for SAME national, regional, and post-level events; trainings and webinars; and online and print content.
- Provide program management primarily supporting industry-government engagement to identify and highlight pressing IGE issues and industry trends and effectively manage efforts to address these issues and trends.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external stakeholders (strategic partners, community-based organizations, academia, industry, and other technical societies) contributing to building national capabilities and capacities.
- Identify pressing issues for industry and government executive consideration.
- Provide support for COI membership recruitment and retention, including leadership team succession planning, and disseminate an annual Call for Volunteers.
- Maintain COI-related records, including member and leadership team rosters, workplans, charters, operation manuals, and bylaws.
- Work with the Events, Marketing and Communications teams to promote COI activities.
- Receive and respond directly to prospective volunteer inquiries.
- Assist in the planning of online and in-person COI meetings to include disseminating agendas and read-ahead materials, and compiling meeting notes.
- Identify and cultivate hot topics that can be turned into COI webinars for the benefit of the membership.
- Identify COI resource needs as part of the annual budgeting process.
- Provide support at SAME National virtual and in-person events as needed.
- Other duties as assigned
OUTCOMES
All SAME staff contribute to the Society’s strategic plan. The PgM’s primary portfolio will focus on outcomes in support of two of those goals:
- Drive Partnerships through Focused Industry-Government Engagement
- Deliver Solutions for Critical Infrastructure and Mission Readiness Challenges
EXPERIENCE
- Strong Project / Program Management skills and experience required.
- Knowledge of technical concepts that are core to COIs.
- Experience working with AEC private sector firms or uniformed engineering organizations (USACE, NAVFAC, AFCEC, other) preferred, but not required.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
- Proficient with online learning/webinar platforms, especially MS Teams.
- Comfort with social media marketing a plus, but not required.
- Experience working with and managing volunteers and committees a plus, but not required.
- Knowledge in constituent databases (specifically Nimble) and website editing a plus, but not required.
EDUCATION
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, architecture or related field preferred
- Project management or related certifications preferred
